Hi! I have been trying to help my mom out and she likes vaping but it makes her cough every time she takes a hit. She is using Marb 24mg 50/50 juice from Dats. I am guessing that it has too much throat hit for her?? So, I was hoping that someone could point me in the direction of a very mild on the throat tobacco liquid that I could buy for her or is there a way to cut down the TH on the juice she has? I let her try some of my 12mg dessert type vapes like TV German Choc Cake and Butter Rum and they made her cough as well.Anyone ever experience this and what did you do? Thanks in advance...any advice is greatly appreciated.

If your German chocolate and other liquids are making her cough, it isn't tobacco harshness, it is probably one of these causing the coughing:

Is she trying to direct draw in the vapor? Have her hold the vapor in her mouth for a moment and only take small slow vapes and open her mough to allow air in with the vapor. Some people try to vape like they smoked. I never did a direct draw like that when I smoked, but tried it once on my e-cig. About did me in coughing. Very harsh.

Vapor is very drying (from the PG/VG). It can take a few weeks to get used to it. She needs to keep lots of water going while she vapes, and perhaps some cough drops. If coughing continues past a few weeks try a process of elimination for the rest of the list.

PG or VG allergy. Try her on just VG without nicotine (no flavoring, just have her vape it alone in a clean atomizer that you've primed with VG). If she does fine, add some nicotine liquid to it (no PG). If she still is fine, it was the PG. If not try eliminating the VG totally with the same process.

If she is on certain medications, it can cause coughing, and vaping seems to make it worse. Blood Pressure meds can do this. She may get used to it.

If she has allergies, a post nasal drip seems to play havoc with vapor and can cause coughing. Saline nasal sprays can help and allergy medications over the counter. Consult your doctor.

It can be an allergy to the flavoring chemicals. A bit tougher to deal with. My buddy can only vape certain vendors liquids. No LorAnn's, No Capella flavorings, no vendors that mix "in house" with extract flavoring (TastyVapor, MyFreedomSmokes, etc.). Dekang's change in flavorings put her out of their products 6 months or more ago... so no Dekang liquids. All of Vapor Station's India made juice works fine for her though. She has no clue why. If it is flavoring, plain PG and/or VG with nicotine should be fine to vape.

Some have said certain atomizer models made them cough, or that when they tried a new atomizer, it stopped. Odd, but who knows. Are you both using the same model? Might want to try a 901 with stock battery or something different than what you are using now.

Good luck to you both.

You've already gotten some really good advice here. The only thing I might add is that for me anyway, the higher the nicotine level the more throat hit I get. Also, I'm a bit sensitive to PG which can also affect my throat (irritation).

There are quite a few good tobacco flavors that we can all recommend. Myself, I'm very content with Dekang brand and recently purchased some Marlb, USA Mix, Tobacco and RY4 from both Rocky Mountain Vapor and Madvapes. I found the USA Mix to be the smoothest, but I also try and get the 18mg strength and immediately cut all my juices 50/50 with pure VG. I end up with a 9mg strength juice with half the flavor but it's still more than flavorful enough for me.

Whatever you have right now you may want to just cut it right in half with VG and let her try that. With the reduced nic level and flavor it just may be what she needs.

I had similar issues with 24 mg. Marb when I first started vaping. Got some in prefilled carts with my starter kit. I liked the taste but it sent me into coughing spasms. I've stuck to Johnson Creek since my first order arrived and have had no further problems. Their Tennessee Cured and Domestic in the Red Oak (vg) line are excellent. Highest nic level you can get in the vg is 18mg. Very smooth. The Original line has a 24mg and is a mix of pg and vg. Also very smooth and tasty if pg isn't a problem. Hope this helps.

Thanks to all of you! I didn't want to give her zero as she was a pack a day for 40+ years...she is supplementing with Camel lights because she coughs every time she vapes. I have a sneaking suspicion it may be the direct inhale issue. However, I will just go through one by one and try to eliminate the problem. Anyway, I very much appreciate your time and input ! This place is the best!

IF you buy vg liquid it wont make you cough because theres no real throat hit. But more importantly its the technique used vaping. I take a drag 4 to 5 seconds long into my lungs and almost sort of breath in while im breathing out at the same time. This technique doesnt make you cough. BUt it takes a little practice. And also make sure that the drags are not like 10 drags in a really fast time. Take your time like you would using a cigarette. Let it set in before taking another drag.

I'll weigh in along with the consensus:

For me,
VG = smoother, thicker vapor
Lower Nicotine = less throat hit
Mouth Drags (I've not met anyone who inhaled tobacco smoke directly) = cooler vapor
Letting off the battery at the end of the drag = cooler vapor

Past couple nights in bed, reading a book, I've been vaping Dark Vapure by Vapor Bomb 50/50 at a mere 4mg. It's quite gentle, has a great flavor (grew on me), and only has a slight TH if I take huge drags.

My favorite cigarette flavors are currently those by Rocky Mountain Vapors (I've tried Camel, 555, and Winston).
My favorite tobacco flavors are Boba's Bounty and Havana by Alien Visions.

Good luck!

Mike
