I have a vtc mini which I use only in TC mode with no issues. The mini is my all dayy every day mod. The way I use it is described in the signiture section below.
I should mention that I'm using the included nickle and titanium coil that came with the kit. I noticed you are building your own coils, I'm trying to find what applies to me with the included coils. Still confused.

I vape .5 ohm coils at 25w on my atlantis v2 coils if that helps.

It's all trial and error, no one all say all Silver Bullet that covers every distinct vaper. A lot of variables come into play, tank, juice you are using, nicotine strength, on and on and on... I have used the Ego Mega One, the Kanthal Coils are rock solid, the titanium coils to me are junk as I get no flavor out of them after the first 2 hits of letting it sit so says slow wicking to me, the nickel coils always burn out on me, doesn't matter if I have the tank set on my VTC Mini, Kbox200, Kbox70w, or my Sig150TC. Put one of my Subtank Plus Tanks with a nickel build in the RBA head, 25watts and 430F, my VTC Mini rocks it all day long no problem.

I have a 5 pack of joyetech CLR coils coming from china via fasttech. Just trying to make the nickle coil and the titanium coil last until then. So from what I gather just set the watts to where you usually set your watts (25w for regular kanthal coils for me) and increase the temperature in increments of 10 of until you find the sweet spot?

I just don't know, can't figure this crap out.

I never felt like dealing with the headache of TC, all these noob devices coming out with TC only coils are just a bad idea imho

Good thing we all get a say in it. :D

Op, Start out around 400F and 25w
Adjust Temp up until the end of your Draw is about the Temp you like(warmth)
Adjust the Wattage up until the Vape is Delivered Smoothly from near the start.
Back Temp down just a Bit if it gets to warm

It takes a back and forth effort to find what works for You.

My Wife likes her Ti running around 460F/30W

Vaping on a TC isn't as easy as lighting up a smoke but vaping on a total noob device is

So while the OP is wanting his nicotine NOW, he has to fiddle around with something and could just as easily end up saying screw it and lighting up

But at least you get to keep your opinion

Are you Serious?
A TC Mod.............Every one I have seen...........will run Watts just as easily as any Wattage only Mod. Boom, instant Vape.
Tank and Coil, NOT the MOD, is Ops issue:facepalm:

Fortunately, Ops opinion also count. Op purchased a TC Capable Mod. :D

I Spent Maybe 30 minutes reading online and watched a Few Youtube Reviews before purchasing my first TC mod.
Took me all of 10 minutes with the mod to get comfortable with functions and reach a nice setting for my very first Nickle build. Funny thing, that same coil is still working 8 months later.

My CLR coils are on the way from china, should be here in a 2 weeks from fasttech. Gotta make these two coils last. Currently rocking the stock .2 ohm nickle coil at 550f and 23w. Something still doesn't seem right about my setup. I don't know, maybe I expected too much, I heard nickle isn't very good.

Really depends on the particular Coil. In a custom build, My Nickel .09 is excellent, but again, it is hand made and properly constructed for the tank/application.(Dual coils)

For the Mega-One tank, I'd recommend the Ti Coils. They fire better and produce a crisp vape.

Consider Your Preferred Vape Temp - at which point in the Draw, you like best. This is your Target, or just below. Once found, your Full vape should be at that point without overheating.
* You may find, Reducing Temp a bit and increasing Wattage will give a Better Vape.

Having a High Temp ceiling does little if the Coil is slow heating up.

If you prefer a Warmer vape, try 480F/35w-40w Then bump up a bit if needed.
As long as you are not clipping(Dry Coil) you can continue to raise wattage.

When the Coil starts heating to Fast, the mod will give a dry coil warning and Not fire the coil(Back wattage down a bit).
______________________________________________________

No one Setting is correct. We all have our own Preference.
*One Big consideration is - Will the Type of Tank/Coil provide that perfect Vape, Not the Mod*
If the Tank cannot perform to expectations the Mod cannot overcome the problem.

With my eVic-VTC Mini, I just use 27 gauge Kanthal wire to make my coils and use it in the 'Wattage' mode ... Works great ... Perfect vape everytime using a Kayfun Lite-Plus atty.

Seems to work better than screwing around with the 'Temp Control' mode and using various kinds of other wire.

And just my personal preference, but I am [not] vaping on nickel wire.
