We have to be careful how we use the terms Addiction vs Physical Dependence. The definitions have changed to clearly distinguish between the two. I'd say most vapors using juice with nictoine will probably fall into the PD category, But it's up in the air until the scientific community and time put a stamp of Good or Bad on what we do. Nicotine or not.

I have a physical dependence on food, oxygen, water and nicotine. I can do without coffee and rum, but it'd suck.

IMO AA/NA has nothing to do with nicotine in most cases. Nicotine didn't make my life unmanageable, but it does have health consequences. People don't get locked up in jail, hurt other people and themselves in most cases, or try to commit suicide because of nicotine. I want to quit analogs b/c I would rather have a less harmful way to enjoy nicotine and a way to cut down on it when I'm ready. This is just IMO. It's what works for me, it may not work out for you.

When did AA start this no caffeine thing?

Yeah really? I remember back in the early 90's when my ex husband got into recovery, they encouraged newcomers to take on jobs/responsibilities in order to keep them coming back. My ex got the "15 minutes early to make the coffee" job many times-and it wasn't decaf.

Additionally, when the whole addiction to AA/NA started to consume his life, our therapist said something very helpful to him. "Live your life the AA way, but don't live your life FOR AA."
