I just got a Joy eGo and am pleased with it. However, when I refill the cartridge with liquid it doesn't last half as long as the prefilled cartridges do. I'm a newbie, so maybe I am doing something wrong. I usually add 6 to 10 drops when I refill the cartridge.

What you describe is typically referred to as "topping off".
For a full refill, you should remove the polyfil from the cart, fill the cart approx. 1/2 full, reinsert the polyfil and then top off with a few drops until the top is very wet.
I've found that works for a few days before the original polyfill gets "saturated" if you will and I need to rinse that out or replace it altogether with some new polyfill - fish tank filter material.

I agree, I have used a needle bottle from the begining and it always insures that my carts are fully loaded. I would also suggest using the HI PING method. Been doing it for months on my 801 and it really rocks!

I did the top off and many other methods my first month of vaping but then found cartos and dripping. Life seems so much easier with those two. I would suggest trying both of those is you find carts are to much of a hassle.
Pop, I have an eGo and use the highping cart mod. When you're ready to refill, take the filler out of the cartridge (I use tweezers), drop e-liquid in until it's almost full, put the filler back in and top it off until it looks like a slushy, then add a couple of drops of juice to the bridge of the atomizer. I waste very little juice this way, and can usually vape until the cart is nearly empty.

I like the ADM mod, same thing but with a piece of spring to ensure your filler plug doesn't get pushed down into the cart.

I have an eGo and I use the blue foam method. Get the blue foam squares from strictlyejuice.com for 75 cents for a pack of 10.

+1 eGo with blue foam. The foam holds plenty of liquid but lets go readily.
I got mine at PetSmart -- one package equals a lifetime supply. LOL
When i feel my cartridge idk if i am feeling to much or not enough. I was holding my e straight out in front of me when i am vapping and i was told i am suppose to keep it pointed at a slant but i am still getting liquid in my mouth in the beginning. Any suggestions as what i am doing wrong? I do not want to start smoking cigarettes again as it is i have not had one in i have not had a cigarette in 3 days and i am proud of myself. I have a 501.
Not enough filler (assuming you're doing any of these cap mods). Too much and you have to wait 5 minutes between drags, too little and you get juice in your mouth. Play around with them some more, you'll see there's a perfect amount to get the right flow.

I think you may be "filling" it too much, after filling, wipe the "flats" of the cartridge with a paper towel, (and if there is a puddle on top, dab it with the paper towel too) then put 2 drops (go slow & steady) on the metal bridge inside the atty. Press on & your ready to vape !
PS. look closely at the flats, if you add too much juice it will overflow into them and end up in your mouth. Hope this works & congrats on the 3 days !!

i just found some of that exact same stuff on ebay, how much should it cost?
the stuff i found is 1 130mmx85mm sheet for £3, so about $5
I was like you, just topping it off. I've tried all the mods but didn't like any of them. So what I did with my last one was first pour some liquid into the little cap that comes with the cartridge, dip the stuff in it, refill the cap, dip the other end in. It got a very good soaking and though I still need to top off, it's not as often. A syringe would probably be the best way to go but I haven't gotten one yet. Oddly enough, though I like DD I bought a tip and don't like it so I don't drip anymore; haven't needed to with this soaking method.
