Just wanted to come out of the shadows and say hello. I've been vaping since my last cigarette on December 31, 2010 and reading this forum for about that long. (This is a really long post about how I got started, made decisions about hardware, etc... I didn't really intend it to go on so long but it did.)

My long winding road to vaping started back in March 2010 when I was suckered into the "Free Trial" promotion for this groundbreaking new technology that gives you the same feeling as smoking without the nicotine! :facepalm:
Suffice to say I was back on analogs within a week. I did manage to get a free battery out of the deal though. Only because I called and complained about how poorly the product performed. Little did I know that's the only way their products perform.
So I tossed it in my closet without a second thought. (Well there was a second thought when my credit card was charged $120...) I won't go into what THAT thought was but I called and prevented any recurring payments for no nic carts. This product was similar to a 306 atty and had a batt that was smaller than the smallest KR808D-1. It might have 2MaH, but that's just conjecture on my part. :glare:
Fast-forward to December.

"Holy *&%$ it's cold outside... I can't feel my fingers. Freaking cigarettes. I've also been coughing alot lately. Maybe I should stop smoking."
"Hmmm... I could try chantix again. Wait I almost killed myself the last time I took it, depressed for weeks. No that won't do. Well my work has a 'stop smoking program' that pays me $50 to quit for 40 days. Guess I could just use snus to curb the withdrawals. HEY wait a minute, what about that freakin' e-cigarette thing? Surely someone makes a decent kit... I'll look into that"

Fast forward about a neck-beard's worth of time searching the internet tubes for "E-Cigarette reviews" :matrix:

"Man, this company sounds awesome! There's even a respectable middle-aged lady who blogs about how awesome this company is, guess I'll order from them."

::The next day::

"S*** maybe I should have gone with this other company that has a lot of different colors and cartomizers (what's a cartomizer)... Oh well I'll get their starter set too. After all they have the most gigantic selection of flavors anywhere. Whatever, it's an investment and Christmastime I'll make the money back between the extra money not being spent on cigs and bonus 'stop smoking' money."

::The day after that::

"E... Cigarette... Forum. Hmm I'll click on that link. *Click* :blink: Wow, that's a ton of posts. Uhh what's an eGo :?:? Ehhh... These people are really into this, I just want to stop smoking." *Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read*

:: The Third Day ::
*Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read*

"Huh, I guess I'll get one of those eGo things too. Errr theirs is really expensive why is it branded like that... Here's a site that has them for a reasonable price! Waitwaitwaitwait... CHINA?! OHHHhhhh... Those guys buy from here and brand the product with their logo. (Who would have thought my Business Logistics class would pay off) :pervy: "

:: The Wait ::
So, At this point I have 2 (didn't know at the time) KR808D-1 kits on order from US companies and an eGo kit from an overseas supplier (who I would recommend to anyone concerned with Health or Cabins for that matter!) So I have a problem, none of these items will make it to me before I plan to quit Dec 31st. A trip to a gas station after work had a big surprise for me. As I was about to ask for a pack of cigarettes, I see this "E-cigarette" brand e-cigarette. $15/each with a usb charger and 2 cartomizers. SOLD! So took it home and started vaping for the first time (Well second, but the 'free trial' product was complete fail so it doesn't count.) Wow! decent amount of vapor, tastes ok I guess. This will get me through 'til my real products arrive.

:: The Arrival :: Fast forward 2nd week in January
The King of these devices arrives. (I had also ordered some juice and was refilling my cartos from the ecig I had from the gas station.) unboxed, got everything organized, started charging, plugged in the usb PT.

"hmm, these carts don't fit on this, good thing I ordered a plethora." *Screwed one on and started going to town*
"WOW... These cartos taste bad! Like plastic... really really bad. Whoa, I'm buzzing... I haven't had this with cigs since I started."

The other 808 arrived in a partial shipment without the case, PCC, or half the cartos. Those cartos were pretty tasty though, so I'll give them that. (Btw, only yesterday did I receive the completion of my order.) Then my eGo arrived.

"Man, had I been able to try these all before I bought. I would have just bought 2 eGo kits... Actually I'm going to get another eGo kit." *Order placed: eGo and juice samples from a few suppliers*

hmmm... Mods eh? *Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read*
"These are a bit silly, who wants to carry around something the size of a flashlight to vape?"
:: One Week Later :: "Charging these batteries is driving me nuts! If only there was something that lasted all day... Maybe has a bigger carto too..." *Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read* "B.... Buh.... Box Mod? Oh man look at all those wood choices. Those are beautiful!" *Order placed: 3.4v Wetbox / Investigating wood boxes*
"Jeeze, this wetbox is great! Holds my juice and lasts a good while. No more refilling these carts and cartos. Wish I had one of those wood boxes, I bet they perform alot better!" Sure enough... eventually got one and placed an order for another and an order for one from a different brand.

:: Totals ::
1 generic 'e-cig'; 2 KR808D-1 kits (5 batts / 2PT's); 2 eGo kits and eGo PT (5 total eGo batts); 1 wetbox; 2 Phidias box mods; 1 Ali'i Box mod; Juices from 9 different suppliers (AVE & Tasty Vapor are my current favorites); countless carto's, carts, and atomizers; and multiple cases, batteries and DIY supplies.

Sorry this is so long, but that's how I got from :confused: to :vapor: in a month and a half. Thanks EFC!:thumbs:

haahaha .. oh my, we have had similar journeys .. I spent like 15 hours a day for 4 days doing nothing but vaping on the cheapo kit and reading these forums. I didn't eat, I didn't sleep and the more I read, the more confused I got. I just posted in another thread that I've spent $486.35 in 20 days ... but the true miracle is I haven't smoked a cigarette in 20 days.

Great post, and welcome .. its nice to know that I'm not alone. Glad you're here!

Peace, Love, & Laughter (mostly at ourselves)

Haha, that's about right. I need one of those counters in my sig to estimate when I'll break-even from not buying smokes.

You have to post 15 times before you can have it in your signature. I'm replying here just to bump my post count up (so close) ... but once you reach it, you can get one here: International Vapers Club Course that one doesn't take into account how much you put out on different supplies .. is there one like that?? Anyone know? Guess I'll have to go *read read read read read read ...* and find out LOL I'll keep ya posted. cleo

Yeah... My counter (if there is one like that) will be negative for at least a few month (assuming I don't go buy a Darwin [http://shop.nhaler.com/The-Darwin-Darwin.htm] *I don't need a darwin, I don't need a darwin, I don't need a darwin, I don't need a darwin, I don't need a darwin* If I tell myself that enough times it'll be true, right?)

A very entertaining read!
I found myself relating a lot to your story, especially the *Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read Read* part, LOL!

Welcome, take care and see ya around!

PS - i just generated one of those signatures - looks like I've saved 512.50 since January 3 - now I don't feel *quite* so guilty about the +600 I've spent on ecigs so far... heh!

Just so you know, I found a counter for your sig that shows your break-even date: PureSmoker Sig Generator
It makes you put your e-mail in so who knows how much spam I'll start getting. Apparently though, I'll break-even on July 7th assuming I don't buy anything else. hahaha :cry:

Thanks! Wow, I will break even sooner than I thought .. that makes me feel better ... I think I'll celebrate by buying something from Puresmoker .. I mean they did make me a banner afterall, it would be rude to not buy something from them!

We are hopeless.

Peace,
cleo

note to self .. if you want your signature to show up, you must first check the box that says "show your signature" -- DOH

I so love your story! And I really am so glad that you took the time to read, read, read,
read, read, read! I cannot strees enough how important that is. This is not as easy as
walking into your corner store and getting your favorite pack of cigs. There are many
things that one needs to learn to make this vaping experience a really good one and
one that gets you off of analogs. Just like you said, the first unit did not do the trick
and if you had not found ECF and did your resarch and reading and ordering, you to
might have failed.
Congrats on everything you have done and everything that you are going to do.
I hope others get inspiration from your story and learn from it as well.

Had my last analog 1/28/11 the day I received my first order Ego 510 kit and Riva 510 for my girl friend.
Have since received Ego Tanks, cartridges and countless back up items...atomizers, carts, usb pass thrus and enough juice to last a couple of months.
Mods well I don't even need to go there yet but probably will soon enough.

sighsssss... I can sooooo relate to the read read read read read read read read read read thing! I found this site on the day after I bought my first PV at the mall, and have spent nearly all of my free hours doing nothing but reading here. It has taken over my life. It has to stop... I think. i also have spent a bunch of money on harware and juices, however it is some of the best monies I have ever spent in my life... I am FINALLY free of tobacco... finally. *breathes a huge sigh of relief* and my life and health are exponentially better for it.

Classywife - stop being such a bad bad girl! (giggles)
and I love the read read read read - I've been vaping since Aug 1st - tobacco free since Aug 7th and I'm still read read reading!

As soon as you can - make sure to check out the classifieds for equipment you might want - people are always moving on to different equipment, juices, etc. And if you find you have gear you don't want to sell - find a way to pass it on! It may not be what you're looking for, but it may be just the thing to get someone else off analogs.

Loden - no regrets! exactly! I'd rather pay a "stupid tax" now and be analog free long term!
