The only mod Iv ever owned is a reo mini. Super dependable and bullet proof. Dropped mine a few times.. tore the atty right off it.. etc etc But since I modded it to be a passthru VV, Im tempted to buy a Provari for work and on the go to replace the mini. I mean, why mess with the others?
But there's a couple things keeping me from buying. First off, Iv never vaped a carto tank and keep reading you cant beat a atty for taste. And second, I know I wouldn't be thrilled if I threw a LR dual coil on the provari and got a error code. Iv got a 1.7 cisco on 5.6v on the mini now. Yes I like my vape hot and, well done. Would the vari rock that 1.7 @ 5.6v 18w?

I'm tempted to stay old school and buy a hand full of IFR 14250 batteries and turn the mini into mobile 6v. And maybe also get a reo grand 6v for home because its so dependable.

Thoughts?

That's 3.3amps.. the ceiling for the provari is 3.5 so it should work. I'm not sure about a watt limit. You could always email provape and ask. I used to be a bottom feeder but never could seem to get the right balance with an atty, always either burnt or flooded. I usually ended up just using a carto and feeding it from the bottom. Once I got the hang of carto tanks, the convenience of not having to drip or squonk won me over. I had one of the original vv woodvils but ended up selling it because I was used to a digital readout and had trouble setting my voltage without a voltmeter. The odor of the wood it was made of never really went away and I could always taste it in my vape (yuck) it sure was pretty but it got to be a rather expensive paper weight so I sold it to someone who could appreciate it. I still have a SGT army tank but I don't use it for bottom feeding, seems when I try to use an atty on it, it ends up sitting in a puddle of juice. :glare:

Anyway, only you, yourself can decide if a provari is right for you and your vaping needs. Carto tanks themselves do have a learning curve, or at least they did for me (and it seems lots of others that I read about) but they do work and work well once you understand that it's all about the balance of air pressure. Good luck with your decision and I hope I helped a little :)

Hmm.. just saw where you mentioned a LR dual coil... don't know about that.

I'm still a carto tank newbie. Do you have time to explain the balance of air pressure?
After you get that tank hitting good.. The flavor drops off and you have to figure out how to get the juice flowing in the carto.
i was thinking about punching 3 holes instead of 2

Best take a tank issue to the tank forum. ;)

I ordered a provari mini and goodies the other day, but Im still wondering if it was the best choice. Cant decide how to best set it up since Iv been dripping, bottom feeding and keep reading about carto tank fails.

I must be completely missing all the fail posts over in the tank forum. I see people post all the time that they want a tank, but they hear they leak, or crack, or dry burn, etc. Where are they reading about the massive amounts of tank failures? I've never had a problem with any tank I've owned from day one. They are as easy as easy gets (once you figure out how to get that first carto in!). Of course, I didn't opt for the cheapest tank I could find either. I did a little research before I made a purchase. Head over to IBTanked and get yourself a tank and a box of single coil punched cartos. There's no way you will be disappointed.

I understand those issues with clearomizers, but not carto/tanks. I'm certain that most of those issues are user error. I agree that dripping tastes best, but carto/tanks offer a nice blend of capacity and convenience that just works.

Get an easy rebuildable atomizer and a ProVari if you want flavor. I have never owned a bottom feeder so I cant compare, but this is my favorite setup over cartotanks and other silica rebuildables.

Works awesome, easy to rebuild (got it on my second try with help from youtube). It literally is an atomizer that you drip into, and the wick holds enough juice to last a decent amount of time. Worth trying out.

I had a Rio grand but I always forgot to squank. I still thought I loved it until I got my Provari. The Rio was the next weeks classified add. There is a lot to be said for the comfort of holding a tube mod vrs a box mod as well. I have been using a cheap smoke tech carto tank for nearly a year now with no problems. You just fill it up and forget about it until it's empty. I didn't know I didn't care for squanking until I didn't have to remember to do it anymore. It sounds like if you never get a Provari you will be perfectly happy with your Riosbut you don't have much to lose if you try the Provari and still prefer your trusty Rios because you can get nearly all your money back in the classies if you don't love it. That's what I did with my Rio. I sold it for 135.00

Most of the failed attempt stories begin in the New Members forum, and then eventually get moved to the Tanks forum by the mods. Most of the fails are from noobs buying the cheapest tank they can find (quality issues) and not knowing the first thing about setting a tank up (which means not pre-filling the carto properly, filling the tank with the top cap off the tank, using unpunched carto's, using carto's with the black sticker on them, and trying to dry burn a carto like one might a string wick atty in a clearomizer or vivi nova).

Like anything else, a little self-education goes a LONG way. If not familiar with cartotanks, I've written several articles that mostly pertain to cartomizers and cartotanks. These include video demonstrations and step by step instructions. They can be found in the link below my avatar.
