I've used both the above mentioned methods with success.
You can also remove the end cap and gut out the LED, battery, and switch(destroying them in the process). With the battery gone, you can soak the connector/tube assembly in hot water to "loosen" things. Then screw it into an atomizer(dead preffered). Tale a drill bit/screw driver/rod sufficiently large enough to leave only a little room and shove it up the LED end. Then use that for added leverage to rock the connector off the tube.

Expect to mess up at least once. It makes it more satisfying if you succeed and less painful when you mangle the connector.

Yeah Rothman, I agree. madvapes sells them at about $2.40 - 2.70 usd.

But... people want to make use of dead batteries. So they scavenge the connector off the end before disposal. I use a pipe cutter and cut off the connector end. You can just use it that way and don't even need to take the connector out. The outside is still a ground, the center the positive lead. And it is painted if you care about the color.

BTW... I don't try pulling out the center connector either... just solder it in place, check for shorts.

LOL... I just keep thinking about this.... lol... Hope you take this with the humor intended (I've done this atty removal thing too):

Most mods don't need the rim around the 510 connector. They just have a hole with epoxy. So to comment further:

<Read in the tone of an infomercial>

Like frustration? Enjoy long hours of ripping apart old batteries just for one stupid non-standard connector? Fascinated with small little silicone washers as electrical insulators? Enjoy learning new cuss words?

PLAY THE ATTY CONNECTOR REMOVAL GAME! Yes, you too can have as much fun as all (my fellow) modders on e-cigarette-forum.

And the real kicker ---- MOST of them never needed to remove the connector to begin with!!!!! LOOOOL.

Enjoy endless hours of frustration...... blah, blah, blah.
<End of infomercial>

Just cut the battery between the switch and the connector with a pipe cutter and solder wires to it.
(see post above)

Or, if you need the rim, buy a new connector (see Rothman's post).

You can use a dead atty screwed into it to give you leverage. But I haven't been able to do it w/out screwing up the batt casing.

if you do so slowly and work it out in a circular way slowly you can do it w/o harming the tube i done it that way w/ 510s, 901s, and 801s but i figure it could be done with any.

For some applications it might be better not to remove it, just cut off the battery tube. if you are going to glue it into a box mod the extra length gives more surface area. Tubing cutter or drill and file to cut the tube about 1/2 inch from the end. I also save all carto center connectors and insulators. They are better than a lot of connector insulators and the longer center pin is easier to work with.
