removing penelope ceramic

I have read and experienced the "soapy" flavor with my penelope.

I would like to remove the ceramic to heat it, but because the ceramic only goes down one side, cannot get a proper grip.

anyone have any advice?

does anyone think I could just torch the ceramic while still in the metal base? I could just do that.

Finally found one Ob, should be here friday or saturday. When it gets here I'll see if I can help. Not sure if Scott showed it in his review vid. I know its easier on the Oddy because both sides are channeled. (try youtube, which I'm sure you already did)

the ob - Take the Ceramic housing with the ceramic side up and very gently push the ceramic up with your thumb nails.

Thanks for the info c8h10n4o2x2! I'll probably do mine when I get it friday as it is brand new. Can you do it with a butane lighter or does it have to be a blue gas flame?

the ob - As far as "burning" the ceramic inside the housing, I have never done it, so I do not know if it would work

KTaylor - I got my information from Scott(igetcha69) and he said the blue part of the flame, there are some lighters that can produce a blue flame you could give them a try.

You can poke it out of the bottom with a small screw driver. You can catch the edge of it with a small flat head once you remove the positive post pin. Should come right out with one poke...you obviously want to be careful but it doesn't take much pressure.

Only one side is channeled on the Ody v2 just like the Pen.

Don't use a regular butane lighter or you will have black soot all over. Use a gas stove or a propane or butane torch. Blue flame only.

Ob. Take the oring that sits on the positive wire locking nut off, then the nut itself. Then unscrew the positive pin out from the ceramic housing. The ceramic should just slip right out. There is a nut and an oring inside the ceramic so don't lose them.

The hole in the bottom of the ceramic is smaller than the hole in the housing, if you can find something the right size, maybe a Qtip, you can push it out from underneath. Just go slow and be careful if you don't have any spares.

I couldn't get my ceramic out either. I stripped everything off the base (o-ring, knurled nut, spacer insulator, inside locking nut) and burnt the ceramic off in a cooktop gas flame while inside the metal.

Didn't seem to hurt it. Tasted much better afterwards.
