another vote for the AW batts
I know the OP already went with AW 1600s, which is a good battery, but to clear one thing up if I may: the notion that flat tops require more maintenance than button tops in grands is not true. I follow the same easy and basic maintenance routine for all my batteries. The only difference is the use of the door magnet on the top. (if you do not use the magnet, perhaps more maintenance would be required, due to the notorious arcing and pitting - but, not with the magnet)
Works great. I was a little skeptical at first of the use of the magnet but I've been running LGs exclusively across the board for a few weeks now. Rob mentioned the possibility of the magnet slipping and shorting, but as long as it is centered I don't see an issue. (I had it slip a few times when I had too much deoxit underneath the magnet, so it was slippery - no shorting, and it was immediately noticeable, and I just moved it back center)I think the idea of using magnets on flat tops in the Grands is a good one. Next time I place an order with Rob, I'm going to get a few. Currently, my AWs are relegated to use in my Grands. The LGs are used in the Woodvils only.
I use both Sony vtc5's and aw 2200's and have a few 1600's as well. I prefer my Sony batteries over the AW's and I'm not worried about arcing. I nolox all my batteries and contacts frequently. I was always told Sony vtc4 and vtc5 batteries were 30 amp batteries and not 20 amp, what happened here? My vtc5 2600 say they are 30 amp rated. They are authentic Sony batteries also.
