Replacement for MBV Menthol

I used to (and still do, until the last 236ml bottle I'm on runs out) vape Menthol 80pg/20vg from Mt. Baker Vapor.

As you probably know, MBV is undergoing a shift to machine mixing from hand mixing of their liquids.
Menthol might be a casualty of this shift. Its been out of stock for about a month.

They tell me they are having production problems because the menthol keeps crystallizing and gumming up their mixing machines. They don't have an ETA on when they'll have Menthol back in stock.

Meanwhile, I need to find another place to find a good menthol e-liquid. I liked MBV's because it was plain menthol: no sweetener, no mint or ice flavoring to muddy that pure menthol sensation.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

Since it's an easy one I would just get menthol crystals and vg/pg nic base, whatever percentage you vape now. Mix the two (some one else can give you precentage), & your done. That's the easiest way I found when I quit menthol smokes. Good luck to you. If not check vape wild, they had a great menthol and other minty flavors IMO.

I guess DIY is my last resort -- It just seems like a big hassle to me.

DIY is easier than many people think it is, especially if you only want to make Mentol eliquid, and won't need to buy a bunch of different flavorings!

Whatever you're paying now for your Menthol from MBV...you could probably easily make 50mL bottles of it for less than $2.50/bottle! That max. $2.50 would be if you didn't get your PG, VG, and Nic in larger sizes, so you'd end up with a lower per 50mL bottle cost for it.

DIY menthol is easier than mixing Kool Aid. That's all my wife vapes is pure menthol and it takes me less than 5 minutes to mix up a 230ml batch for her.

And is a heck of a lot cheaper than buying from anyone else.

You could get a gallon of PG for about $25, and a quart of VG for about $13. 8oz of menthol crystals costs about $12. And 1 liter of 100mg nicotine solution for about $50.

That's a $100 investment, but would give you around 5,500ml worth of juice. Literally less than 2 pennies per ml. Less than $5 for your normal 236ml bottle. And you'll have plenty of nicotine and some menthol left over when you run out of PG and VG, so your second purchase of those would only cost you $38, making it even cheaper.

Most people don't realize it, but juice is almost pure profit for ecig shops. Think about it. $100 investment = 5,500ml = 183.3 30ml bottles at $10 per bottle = $1,833 income from a $100 investment.

Got email today from Vape Moar:

Happy Labor Day! We are celebrating the Holiday with a 20% off all Big Bottles Sale.

Simply use the coupon code "WORK16" at checkout.

**********************************
So, would save you $4.00 off the big bottle!

Thanks for mentioning that @JCinFLA. I forgot all about it. :)

Tried Vape Moar's menthol: Its a 75 vg juice, so as I suspected, it just didn't have the throat hit I'm used to with MBV's 80 pg liquid. (which they have phased out accross the board.)

I've got promising orders from My Freedom Smokes and Vape Mall (ordered with extra menthol since I'm used to 2 extra shots from MBV) on the way. They are both closer to or at the same pg I'm used to.

I'll keep you posted about how it goes.

Why not DIY? I'm just not interested in experimenting with finding the right menthol concentration right now. Too much time investment when my plan is to step down my nicotine concentration about once a month or so before the FDA's vacopalypse. I'd rather find a consistent flavor and just gradually step down the nicotine until I'm at zero and can quit. I just don't think I have the time or patience to do all that mixing and tasting when all I'm trying to do is quit.

For anyone that cares about that ratio that sketch was referring to, it's: 66% Menthol Crystals/33% PG or VG shaken Well, then use the % of that mix in you're Unflavored Nic/PG/VG that suits you're pallet (try 2.5% to start with). That's the supposed formula that TFA uses.

P.S. I too used to use MBV Menthol and since 2 weeks ago when I found out that they NO longer carried Just Plain "Menthol" flavoring, I have been on the hunt myself. I have a 15ml glass bottle of TFA (The Flavor Apprentice) Menthol Liquid Flavor in PG and love it, I like it better than what I got from MBV in fact, I just can't find it either now that I found I like it so much (my Luck), so I too might go to mixing my own and use the formula above.

Is this the one you're looking for? Perfumers Apprentice - Menthol Liquid (PG)

Diy is not really hard and its what i used to thing some years back.
Takes about 10 minutes to make a 500ml bottle if that.

I make Menthol e-liquid from Menthol liquid concentrate that i bought lifetime supply from certain vendor @ 2% 90%pg 10vg and 12mg Nic in a 500ml bottle for the Mrs for very very very little money compared to what folks pay premade.
As for me i vape real cig concentrated flavoring made in similar fashion as above.
IF deeming regulations go fully into effect well it will not hurt us DIY 1 bit but folks that rely on buying
pre-made stuff will be in a pickle.

Its really something to consider and so much cheaper. ; )

So I got some vapemail today. Here are my results:

Baseline: Mt. Baker Vapor Menthol 80pg 18mg nicotine 2 extra shots. Strong pure menthol flavor, good throat hit. Out of production. I've got most of a 236ml bottle left.

My Freedom Smokes Menthol 80pg 18mg, no extra flavoring is available. This liquid has a yellow color rather than clear, so my first impression is "what else is in this?" Its got a mint flavor along with the menthol (May be responsible for the color?). Fast shipping. (Ordered the 5th, delivered the 8th.) Good throat hit, but the mint flavor is a complete miss for me.

Vape Mall Menthol 75pg, +35% flavor (+15 also available,) +menthol (I don't know what that means. It was an option on the order form and highlighted along with my other options on the bottle. I chose it because I love menthol.) Good throat hit. Good pure menthol flavor (not overwhelming like the time I tried MBV with 3 extra shots.) Slow shipping. (Ordered the Aug 30, in USPS hand on the 6th, delivered Sept 8th.)

Vape Mall's menthol comes the closest to MBV menthol for me. Just be sure to order with plenty of time because their production and shipping is very slow.

Hope this helps.

The MBV service reps say it's an issue of the menthol crystalizing in their new mixing machines. So MBV menthol may be back if they get the kinks worked out. They say its one of their top 24 sellers and are doing everything they can to get it to work.

So, they may have menthol back sometime.

Now if only they would bring back volume pricing they might get my e-liquid business again:)

I know you don't want to DIY but Nude Nicotine sells premixed bases with your nicotine level. 500ml for $25.00. I think there max PG option is 70% but it might be worth an email to them. Get some menthol flavoring and start experimenting in 10ml increments. Could be a pretty cheap way to get your juice.

Yes, It is, BUT, I have already ordered and received a (1) lb. bag of Menthol Crystals from Bulk Apothecary for only $20. I decided to just go ahead and make my own Menthol, Start to Finish, using the above formula. Thank You for finding that Lannie, It might be of help to someone else now. I have a digital scale that works in Grams (as well as other scales) that I got from Amazon for like $20 some time ago and will use that. Using the above formula it will take 19.2 Grams of Menthol Crystals and 9.6 Grams of PG to make a 30ml bottle of Menthol concentrate which I will use in my PG/VG/Nic Base at 2% strength, which should make 1.5 Liters of Vapeable ejuice . Since there are 454 Grams in a pound, those Crystals will last for the rest of MY life (just like my 500 feet of Rayon will).
