Thanks Jazzi Mike. That is a nice mod. Huge, at least in length. Of course I realize given the nature of my query that most mods recommended will be larger than normal. Interesting how they have made the stacking of the 2 18650s safe. That one will go on my "for the future" list.

Ahh, no he doesn't make stacking safe. Safer than no protection but not safe. Disconnecting the circuit protects the battery from external shorts, that is shorts in the mod or carto but not internal battery shorts. The biggest danger with stacked batteries occurs when the batteries aren't balanced. In that situation one battery will work harder to produce the required current than the other and can the cause the over worked battery to heat up and start breaking down internally. Possibly leading to a runaway thermal event if not caught in time. Stacking batteries is not something to be taken lightly. They need to be matched from the beginning and monitored throughout their use.

You could always build your own using a LM2596 board and 2 18650's... Total VV
specs here. http://www.engineering.uiowa.edu/sites/default/files/ees/files/NI/pdfs/01/25/DS012583.pdf

My "Speed Stik" is running 4 days on 2 each 18650's when I normally have to change out singles every day.
You can custom it how ever you want to and there are several board versions.

..but it only cost me a total of $10 (not counting the batteries..)

I currently am aware of the Beast Box, BAM, Bombshell Stinger, Curve, and Shan Mods. Any opinion on these and other possibilities would be appreciated.

The BAM is great and can do everything you're looking for except for the 2 18650s. It can, however, take a 26650, 26500 + Kick, 18650, or even an 18490 + Kick. You can also use it for self-defense. The build quality is excellent, fits comfortably in the hand, it's made in the US and can be had for a very reasonable price at $119 or you can go for a blemished one for $100. Green is out of stock thanks to yours truly.

SupplyDaddy. Thanks for the info. No I am not laughing. Frankly I think that is great. If I had the knowledge and ability to do that I would probably never buy another mod. Not much of an engineer/electrician myself but I do know one of the B&M store owners here has some experience building box mods, so I may approach him about this. 10 bucks! WOW! Far more impressed with that than a 2,3, or 4 hundred dollar mod.

You might could achieve this by getting two Nemisis Clones and combining the two together?

I just tried it with two HCigar Nemisis Brass Clones...
A good tight fit, but since I only have flat top batteries and no spacers handy it isn't firing.

I ended up using all parts but the bottom barrel/cap/button of the second clone, and the two thin PTC fuse rings aren't needed, with button tops you might want one of the fuse rings with some atties..

To have room for some sort of regulator you'd need another kick ring or two.

Jascom, believe me, while I may know a few things, I'm ham-handed... As long as you have a soldering iron, this you can do!
Check out MadVapes DIY section for push buttons and 510 connector you like (pre-wired connection anyone?? :) ) and Amazon for the LM2596 board selection, 18650 battery holders and 3 position voltage reader.. ON/OFF switch if you'd like and you can build your own!!
