So as I said about a month ago in this forum, I purchased two REO Minis for employees of mine (and all of the accessories/juice/etc) to gift them in aiding them to quit smoking cigarettes. All I asked is that they try (on my dime) and give the units back to be re-gifted if they didn't work out.

One user just never got off the ground. I wasn't there to coach her, and she ashamedly returned the unit. I felt bad, but gladly re-gifted to Friend RIP(more about him later on).

Employee #2 loves vaping. Unfortunately he still smokes and I'm kind of torn on him still doing both. With me (and others I know), outside pressure didn't help, rather encouragement did. I don't want to force a take-back, but I have another person that I know could benefit from this unit. Your thoughts about a take back?

"Rip", my best friend and schoolteacher was a HARDCORE smoker (like me). He tried my reclaimed mini at my home, and took it back with him, only to pull off a weekend cessation. He's 9 or 10 days pure vaping now and LOVES not having to sneak off campus or fiend for nicotine. I was so happy when he told me that his REO made it "seamless" to transition. He just bought his wife one to make the full family REOS conversion.

So I hired a new guy, and found out later that he was a smoker (he's 2 offices away from mine) and urgh, I smell his stale stench every day. I'm training him so we're face to face a LOT (yuck the smell). As I have 3 REOS, I loaned him one while we were driving together for 5 hours yesterday. He pulled it off, loved it and didn't smoke. I'm VERY inclined to call Robert and buy my new guy a unit. Heck, it can't hurt to have a stash of REOS in the back pocket to convert the smelly smokers!

Back to Employee #2 - should I pull a ".... or get off the pot" with him lest I take back or give it more time (we're 3+ weeks in now).

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I don't know...you are in a hard spot. If REO #2 was given, not loaned I probably wouldn't ask for it back. Going forward if I purchased another REO for employees I would specify "try this, if you like it get your own, so the next person can give it a go." Or an incentive program...6 months no ciggies, the REO is yours.

I still think you rock for doing that!

If employee #2 is still using the REO some of the time, then I'd give him more time, maybe talk to him and find out if he has a plan formulated to get off of analogs completely. It takes some people more than 3 weeks to quit completely. If he's headed in that direction, taking the REO away will assure he will go back to smoking. But if he's only vaping at his desk at work and not any other time and has no plans to quit, then I'd take back the REO right away.

You are really nice getting REO's for them. I only have a few friends still smoking and I've given them eGo's and cheapy clearos.

Thanks guys - yeah, I'm not so inclined to take away and leave the guy in analog hell. Heck, even cutting down and using the REO as a harm mitigator is cool and lessens the stench in my business. My offices looks pretty cool with vape coming from multiple offices! I just don't know how to encourage someone to make the "full leap" off of analogs. I made my mind up, had the right tool and just did it. I know its not easy, but then again, my bro Rip just did it. Frustrating! Guess I'll call Rob to restock and keep pushing REOS Mods. That is until "big tobacco" puts a price on my head.

^^Perfect idea. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I would have to talk with #2 and get a little more info. For example maybe the juice isn't a good fit, maybe it isn't high enough mg to satisfy the urge? Or it could be that they just aren't ready. It could be something simple.

Could be after talking they might want to give it back or instead make more of an effort to quit the stinkies.

first off, i'm used to working remotely... :)

seriously, i agree that 3 weeks might be a tad too soon to cut the cord. i started with cigalikes and probably smoked/vaped for months. not every duck jumps in the water right away...

instead of pulling the plug you might want to consider offering him an Ego or something in exchange for the Reo that you want to pass onto someone else. If you don't have that sort of thing sitting around gathering dust, you can buy a cheap kit from Fasttech (for example)-- or i'd be happy to send you a VV ego, charger, some clearos.

you really are a great boss!

I really like the offer to "buy back" or offer him a cheaper alternative. A REO improperly utilized seems like a waste to me.

Also, his significant other suggested that PG or VG might be harmful to his health and perhaps total cessation is best. Accordingly, he probably can't vape everywhere at home, near her, etc. Don't even bother to respond to this one...frustrating.

Also, does it really take some people weeks and weeks to completely stop? My experience was that I wanted to quit analogs, had a working alternative and just did it. My bro RIP did the same. Perhaps I'm on a high horse and having too high of expectations.

My DH still smoked some for first year and more vaping, using the best, a REO. The smokes went from a pack a week to a pack a month over a years time. All I could do was give him any support he needed vaping. Nagging and being judgmental was no help at all. After a time he just didn't buy any stinkies any more. If you can be supportive without judgement and encourage him in gentle ways my suggestion is to let him keep the REO and to use only gentle guidance. Just remember, "It's not how many stinkies you smoke but how many you don't smoke." You are one really fine person for doing what you are doing. We cheer you.

Yes, it does take some people time to quit smoking. It didn't take me very long, but a few weeks....it wasn't instant. And I have two Mini REOs loaned out (given) to my niece and her husband, and they smoked/vaped for about a month before they decided to simply quit buying cigarettes and totally commit to vaping. It's a process for some people. A lot of times it has to do with whose idea it was to quit smoking and start vaping....motivation, in other words. If someone really wants to quit smoking, then vaping is the perfect and easiest way to go about it. On the other hand, if it's someone else's idea....the motivation might not be quite as strong. For instance, if someone had WANTED me to quit smoking and suggested that I vape instead, and had even given me the means to do it, I'd probably still be smoking......just sayin'. :)
