I have the same issue if I don't oxidize the wick and nichrome at the same time. Try winding your coil, getting it white hot with a butane torch then dropping some juice on it. Repeat 3 times then get it connected to your atty. Most people just oxidize the wick but I have too many issues just like the ones you describe - if it doesn't get oxidized as a 'unit' I have variable ohms.

you oxidize your wick/coil with e-juice?
