Just trying to get some things straight as I'm a little confused the more I read.
I know everyone has different preferences, but can someone explain wire gauge and coil length to me?

As I understood it, more coils equals more surface area which in turn produces more vapor. Does thinner wire produce more throat hit? And how does this all tie together? Especially now that I will be moving from my variable voltage Provari to a GGTS (hopefully soon, I want to be prepared) I will be limited to 3.7v, so I need to get my coils down. It didn't matter quite as much before when I could just up my volts, but now I'm curious.

Is it as simple as just thinner wire = more throat hit (or the other way around?) And more coils equals more vapor? I know more coils brings the Ohms up, so would I just want thinner wire if I go for more coils, less coils with thicker wire?
I feel like I'm missing something!

Thanks guys! You are all so much help.

If we are talking for the same ohms then:

thin wire=less flavor, more throat hit, more smoke
thick wire=more flavor, less hit and less smoke, more burning surface

To my opinion more wraps around the wick are better but they require thick wire. That means that we have more burning surface but the results on smoke and hit are always lower than the thin wire

I also vape at around 3.7 volts. Although this may be subjective, I recommend a 32 gauge resistance wire (which is pretty much standard). Cut it at around 1 & 1/4 inches and that should give you around 1.4-1.5 ohms, sometimes it goes up to 1.7 ohms but that is rare. You'll get some nice warm flavor and throat hit with that.

Thanks imeo, that helps.
Doke, thanks, yeah I've been using 32 gauge Nichrome wire at about that length, and I'm pretty happy with it at 3.7v, just didn't know if I could get a better setup. It's about 3 coils, too.
I'll just keep using that until I can experiment more with some extra wick.
Thanks again guys!

Yea, it can be a challenge getting 2-3 coils around a double wick but I believe this is the optimal choice. I forgot which post it was in but thinner wires will give you more coils around the wick, although there are some problems that arise from using thinner wires (can't remember what it was).

I don't know how different the flooding issues are in the Ody compared to the Penelope (which is what I use) but I'd imagine that they cannot be too different. With that being said, I generally go with double wick to prevent flooding and to hold more juice at the center. It feels like I get more flooding issues when I go with a single wick. Lastly, I believe that the performance is much better with a double wick setup compared to a single wick setup.

A small correction Dok. Thin wires give less coils around wick:)

Damn it, this is the 3rd time I keep getting that part mixed up. Sorry, I meant to say that thicker wires give more coils around the wick. Still not recommended though :p. Stick with the 32 gauge.

Thanks for the correction Imeo.

Hi Sub maybe I can share some light for you.

I currently own a provari that I like to call my x wife. That being said I only really use is GGTS pvs. Doing dual coils and it don't have to be very hot a simple 1.5 dual coil is very satisfying. using a 18650 battery aw IMR fully charged is really 4.2 volts. I personally don't vape at those ohms I prefer it to be in .6-.7 ohms at 4.2 volts (fully charge 18650 battery high drain). A ggts with a 18650 battery high drain will get you 4.2 volts at a full charge. The battery goes down in volts you will notice less heat and less throat hit different taste. at that point you can swap the battery out for a fresh one charged at 4.2 volts. I usually change my battery once its hit almost at 3.8 volts and thats usually after 2 hours of chain vaping usage. on and off 15-20 minutes.

Now as a single coil at 1.5 ohms or single coil at .7 ohms that will never grant you the same vapor, throat hit and taste as a dual coil at .7 ohms

Wire of choice I prefer using resistance wire Gauge 34 (.16mm) this will give me a balance in flavor and very very fast vapor production and throat hit.

You can ask Bruce and Justin from COV, Bursado, JCWEST, and many other folks that personally tasted my Dual Highlander coils at vaporcon. They can verify and tell you how hot wet moist strong steam vapor they tasted. You will be satisfied because you have full control to adjust your ohms. The only way for you to know is for you to make dual coils. I always recommend people start at 1.5 ohms that way you can decide if you want it warmer or cooler. If you want it warmer make another set of dual coils ohming out at 1 ohms. See if that satisfy you.

if you need help we can always get on video chat if it be skype or oovoo and I can help you out more.

Wow thank you so much for the in depth description, I will definitely try this out when I get more wick material! Thanks!

My experience seems to be different than others on here. I had a lot of trouble with my Penelope on my fixed voltage Precise + at first. I couldn't get good vapor and my coils would gunk up quickly. I am now using 30ga Nichrome. Just over an inch between connections with non resistance wires give three wraps on a single 3.5mm wick and about .8 to1.0 ohms. This gives me a warm vape, good flavor and lasts for weeks.
