plantlvr, maybe it's the exception, but when I'm at the door at the end of the day, one of my cats screams so loudly I absolutely must pick him up in order to quiet him down. The other one gallops back and forth with pure glee. The one that gallops wanders around and cries for about 40 minutes when I return from a trip out of town. They just don't jump on me and lick and slobber. Just a different style!
Awwww. . .
My 3 boys ran the spectrum in greeting-behavior-following-a-long-absence. The smartest one (the tabby) would give me the attitude Plantlvr described
plus the cold shoulder for several hours, then return to being my "push-button purr snuggle bear."
The middle child (lost him years ago to a brain tumor) would run to greet me, wrap himself around my legs and chatter at me, and then suddenly remember he was

at me and disappear for an hour or so. Then back to loving normal ("Mommy you're so cute I have to .... your arm and bite your elbow!").
The "baby" (that I lost last month) and possibly the least-brainy one was all excitement, purrs, LOUD Burmese talking, and general cuddly/sweetness -- as if he was SO GLAD to see me, but had already forgotten WHY . . .
