Hey so being a new member I'm only allowed to post here, but it's better than nothing.

Today I was directed to a link (I'm not allowed to post links) on reddit posted by Twisted420 I think, about how Rip Trippers asks for money to review stuff and wants to be paid for endorsements and such.

What's your opinion on the whole situation? Do you not trust reviewers who accept money for review? Do you base your purchases on if the reviewer says to buy it or do you do more research for yourself and preferences first?

Personally I'm not one to blast my opinion on anyone, I don't really care that much, and I wanted to prove my point by using this thread to plug my review channel, because it seems to me that most drama just gives the person more attention (any press is good press),

SO, while you're here you may as well check out my reviews, the channel name is WackedOutECIG on youtube (again, I'm not allowed to post links)

p.s. I don't ask for money for my reviews :vapor::rickroll:

Does this reviewer tell us where to shop? No. Good luck to him. :)

Some reviewers tell us where to shop and which brands to buy (because there is no choice) - be they Apollo, V2, Volcano or VaporFi. These are the real villains in the piece.

Which are you?

The top guys should be paid. No question. They help the big manufacturers to make millions.

The guys who send newbies direct to rip-off e-cigs dot com, should be run out of town.

It a question of consumer choice and price controlled by market forces. One is playing by the rules, the other is a shill.

They're all paid in some form or other. Wether it's free equipment to review or paid endorsements. I don't see a problem with that. What I would have a problem with is if he's taking money specifically for a good review. If that was the case, as I read it was alleged, I wouldn't trust any of his opinions. I watch reviews, Twisted's, VapingwithThesis, Rip and Phil Busardo because I find them either entertaining or informative. I can't honestly think of anything I've bought that they've reviewed other than the Subtank. Subtank I would have bought regardless of wether I watched their channels or not.

I would be happy to check out your channel! I usually watch Phil Busardo as he seems to be a very decent person and is very concerned with vaping safety.

I have never cared for Rip and his reviews, though I have watched my share of them (double standard?).

Nah. It's the "road kill effect": You know it's there - you don't wanna look - but you do.

I strongly disagree with some of the above posts. Reviewers should not be paid by the companies they review. Period.

Avoiding conflicts of interest is a fundamental part of review integrity and quality. This is why Consumer Reports charges what it does for subs, and people are willing to pay -- it is considered the most respected and unbiased review source in the world.

I know in reality it's impossible to avoid all conflicts of interest: The guys need products sent to them to review, and it's not feasible to pay for them all. That said, it's our job as consumers to support unbiased opinions, and it's their job as reviewers to find creative ways to support themselves financially, in order to avoid conflicts. We shouldn't be making excuses for them.

Support them if you want. I find Rip's videos annoying to begin with. But the dubious quality of Rip's, Twisted, and many other youtube "reviewers" is pretty obvious.

I like rip but I take all the reviews with a grain of salt and then make a decision from there. I think he does a good job of showing you the product, but I don't know if buying advise is that valuable.

That's how I view them too, I want to see the product before I buy it, and know if there are any things I should take into consideration. The problem is that a lot of people don't know how to make a decision for themselves and just hop on any device that the reviewer says is good :/

That's why I said I think .. it seems Twistedchild420 is Vapingwithtwisted420 based on the things he said in the thread and on his facebook. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though.

I have no idea if the two are the same.

What I do know is that it's a "slippery slope" when people post things and they can't back then up with facts. The internet is filled with such posts. I consider it all hearsay until the facts are known.

Personally I'm not one to blast my opinion on anyone, I don't really care that much, and I wanted to prove my point by using this thread to plug my review channel, because it seems to me that most drama just gives the person more attention (any press is good press)

So that's what your post is all about. Driving traffic to your channel.

Nothing wrong with wanting money to do it. It is a business and businesses get paid. I am not coming to your house to fix your furnace for free. I don't care if you are the King of England. I take them all with a grain of salt. Met one reviewer at Vapecan last year but my opinions on what I think will be kept to myself. You do your reviews for free that's good. But I would advice you to keep your day job. LOL CHEERS!

I watch several reviewers on YT. Rip is most likely the least of them, along with Twisted. My top 4 I base purchases off of are Todd over in the UK, Phil Busardo, GrimmGreen, and Dimitris (VapinGreek), secondaries are Suckmymod, Twisted, and Rip in that order. If three of my first 4 give a solid thumbs up on something I am interested in purchasing hardware wise, Phil I look for a lot of the technical specs he offers, Todd if Phil hasn't posted specs yet, then Grimm and Dimitris, sway the count from there.

In this respect you are getting more solid opinions than just 1 or maybe 2.

As many have said, Rip is a goof a lot of times, some of his tutorials are informative, but he is geared more toward things regarding cloud chasing when it comes to hardware reviews.
