Hi there,

As a new vaper and having just had my kit for like 2 days all is well (atm)

I am just curious to know how I will know when my atty is dead? and when it needs replacing etc

I am aware they all have diff lifespans but do not know how to identify a dead atty..

Also on a seperate note but staying with 501 attys, do they all come primed? whats the best way of getting rid of the primer if they do?

Thanks guys

You'll know when an atty is dead because it won't work very good anymore, or it won't work at all. Sometimes you can clean them and get some more life out of them, other times they're just goners.

The best way to get rid of primer is to blow them out in my experience. Just take the bare atty and blow through the cartridge end onto a white tissue. Keep blowing hard through it until no more brown liquid comes out. Add around 5 drops of juice and take a few drags without inhaling. Then take a hit and inhale cautiously. If it tastes bad don't inhale a few more times and try again.

it's easy to confuse a flooded atty or a dirty atty for a dead one, if you stop getting good vapor. If your atty is still getting warm, it is not dead, just needs to be rinsed out with alcohol and warm tap water, blow dry with the threaded end towards your mouth (like when removing the primer) and you can let it sit upside down on a paper towel for a little while. I just do the thermometer shake, and keep blowing it out until I don't get anymore liquid coming out then put it back on my battery. Now you have an atty that should be relatively clean, and needs to be primed with a couple of drops of your favorite e juice. Then you can get back to your usual routine. You may find it takes a few puffs to get it fired back up again, the main thing is to be patient so your liquid has time to wick if you use cartridges. If you have an atty that does not get warm when you activate it, and your battery is charged, then you have a dead atty. Also important is to keep the connection points clean, I use alcohol and a q-tip to swab the threaded area on my battery and atty once every few days. All atty's come with primer, some more than others. I usually rinse mine with warm tap water before using, rather than just blowing them clean. I hate that primer taste. If you get a gurgling sound, you probably flooded your atty, and it's hard to get good vapor when there is too much juice surrounding the coil. Simply get a napkin and blow the extra liquid out (as mentioned above) with the napkin over the opening to catch the juice. If you are getting a really harsh flavor, you might not be getting enough juice on the coil. This can take a little getting used to, finding your sweet spot, and it can change from atty to atty. Hope this helps some....

Today after 3 days use of the same atty I changed my atty although it was warming up etc, I just felt I wasnt getting enough vapour and I was not at home to clean it so started a new one. I have kept the old one though to try and clean it out

I also changed it because I did not feel as if the throat hit was as harsh compared to when I first started the atty and after 10 - 12 puffs after just having put 6 drops of e juice in my cart I felt it was getting weak again

20 drops in 1 cart, doesnt the juice leak? do you frequently taste juice on your lips? do you not feel too chemical? just wondered..

I ask as on day1 when I put about 16 drops in my cart I got alot of juice leak, frequently tasted juice on my lips so gave the cart a throughly clean and since then I have decreased it to 5 - 6 drops at a time and find this is ideal for me...

well i will say this, when i first fill them up its about 20 drops, dont have any problem with leaking and no juice taste on my lips either for that matter, now when i refill them after the first time i get about 10 to 15 drops in them still with out leak or taste on my lips...

there was a video on youtube that i watched about refilling the carts, and i've been using that method and it seems to work fine granted i'm just working on my third day with this so who knows what will happen later, lol. but what i do is put in enough drops till it starts to pool up at the top of the cart, then i take a tooth pick and lift the poly fill up and the juice soaks down, i push the poly fill back down just level with the top of the cart and add more drops till it looks glassy but not pooled up

you can try that maybe it will work for you, maybe not.... thats just what i've been doing and it seems to be working for me
