Hey guys!

Man it's been awhile since I posted here on the forums and it seems like I've been missing out on some goodies. I'm going to be picking up a RM 2 and a VVG soon for a bday gift to myself and I wanted some opinions.

1) How does the RM 2 match up with the Hornet? I've been using the hornet for awhile and I love it because of how sturdy it is. But lately I seem to always flood it or my juices usually turn funky colors after a few days which alters the flavor. Does the ceramic base on the RM 2 make a difference? How do the vapor and flavor production compare?

2) Do a lot of people use micro coils as their go to set up these days? I read that some people wrap a lot to meter out to like 2 ohms which is WAY higher than my normal coils (1.3 ohms). I use a 000 screwdriver to wrap my coils so I don't know if that is considered micro or not. Are people using a VVG when making the 2 ohm coils? I feel like 2 ohms gives me barely any vapor with my regular Grand. Also how would you wick a micro coil? I'm assuming just same as usual by threading it through the coil but with a lot less wick ( I use cotton wicks)

3) And the $200 question... Is the VVG truly needed? I pretty much want one simply because I can't stand the battery drop off on my Grand. Once it gets down to like 3.7/3.8 it's just not as satisfying as a Fresh battery. I'm probably gonna buy one regardless, but what is the optimum ohms people set up for their VVG? Like I mentioned before I think superxdrifter liked his coils 1.7 or 2.0 ohms for best flavor.

Man I need to be on the forums more often since I've been missing out! Good to be back and I hope all the sages here can point me in The right direction!

Hi, Lazyymatt! Good to see you again! I LOVE my VV Grand(s) and highly recommend it if you are tired of the battery drop off. That's the BEST reason to get one.....the consistent battery. It says good until....it's not. And the RM2 is one AWESOME atty. I like it better than the Hornet for two reasons.....it's easier to build because the posts are farther apart, and it has a ceramic bottom so I think it DOES keep the juice cleaner, and it's less likely to short.

Sounds like you're already pretty much building what we call micro coils. There's a really good thread http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/reos-mods/413000-rm2-rba-2-0-reomizer-2-rebuild-tutorial.html here that will talk all about it. Yeh, just thread your cotton through it.

And don't be such a stranger.....you're bound to miss out on some incredibly interesting and vital conversations!

Thanks JC! I was actually thinking bout you since the tornado. Not sure if you were anywhere close to it, hope you're okay. I think I'm gonna try and build a smaller coil later tonight to test if its better, but it seems like the consensus on the forums is to just buy the rm2 no questions asked lol. Argh but I read that Rob might be releasing some "new" Grand in the summer and now I'm hesitant to buy the VVG and something better comes out like a single battery VVG. I would be so upset if that happened haha

Welcome back, lazymatt :) It's nice to see you again.

1) I'm using both right now and I prefer the RM2. I believe that ceramic cup is the key. In my experience, my juices aren't turning sour like it does with the Hornet and the Chalice.

2) No...haven't done any micros.

3) If drop off is your big focus, I think you'll like the VV. The voltage remains the same throughout the drain....but there is a minor drop off right as the batteries' combined voltage can no longer support the voltage you have the chip set at. Beyond that, the device stops working. My coils are 1.8-2.0...and I have no idea what voltage I'm running. I just stick them on then tune to taste. :D

Alright I am placing an order on the RM2 now.... BUT are the rumors of a new Reo coming out this summer really true??? I mean if Rob really does have something in the making then should I just hold off on buying the VVG or should I just forget the rumors and buy it? On the one hand.... having another Grand is not a major NEED more of a WANT.... but on the other the constant vapor production lack of battery drop off..... hmmm what to do what to do?!

Aw, just Snap up the VVG while your at it! I did and it is awesome. Totally not necessary but it is such a sweet piece of hardware to have. It is an elite piece of vape gear. :)

I'll just type in your "You're welcome" now cause once you are hitting off it, pressing that killer button, rotating that rockin dial and admiring how it fits your hand, you'll be thanking us for steering you down the road. :)

I know that curiosity about it killed this cat. :)

Also, on the micro coils, I would say that 1/16" or less is a micro. The key is tightly wrapped, scrunched together touching coils for the LR feel with SR numbers. That is what seems to pop the flavor.

My latest favorite mold is a 16ga luer lock blunt tip needle. Perfect size, weight and proportions for building, installing and adjusting micro coils.

I also use cotton (well that's all I used up until recently) and threading into a micro is a little more challenging, but still simple and worth it.

As of late, been using 1/32 Nextel rope wick. Seems to be fantastic in all ways and it it also supposed to last for a long time. In not going to rush to judgement again on it, but day 4 tastes and fogs just like day one.

The key to microcoils is definitely tight wraps. That is not to say that they don't work if the coils are separated. It's just that when the coils are separated, you need lower resistance to achieve comparable result.

Wrapped on the same 18 gauge needle, I like either 1.6 ohm coil with space between loops, or 2.3 ohm coil with loops touching.
