Hey everyone! I've got some 28g Kanthal on the way for more awesome coil building as I'm almost out of 30g and want to go a little lower in ohms.

My question is what coil positions do what to flavor/throat hit/temp/etc? I've seen pics of the "diver" (I think) style, plus some other crazy stuff. I thought it might be nice to have a thread to go to that says "Coil place high effects X".

If there is already a resource on this my apologies!

Thanks guys!

I'm not sure about "lower coil better flavor". I find the flavor much too sweet and somehow restricted to the middle range (with recessed bass and treble if you see what I mean) when the coil is too low.
High does give throat hit, but also high notes.
I don't know about the bass, sometimes it's there sometimes not really. I don't really understand why. Need more tinkering, or less lol.

Elevation, as explained to me by pdib:
Higher than the airhole = more TH (air passing under the coil).

Nice graphic SXD! My air hole tends to line up comfortably just a bit clockwise (if looking down at the RM2) of 12 O'clock. I wonder what would happen if I centered my coil over the hole in the ceramic which would line up better with my air hole... Hmm!

So what about other configurations like the "diver" that was perpendicular to the air hole and angled down towards the juice hole? (Tee-hee, "juice hole")

Has anyone noticed a difference putting the coil closer to the air hole or closer to the posts?

i laughed harder then i should have.

ive been messing with my coil alot sense i got my reo. im more of a "hands on" kind of guy. i think coil placement has alot to do with it. but the way you drag and juice play equal parts. im happy with it close to the airhole as possible. but i like to blow clouds.

Here's a very good coil for flavor, etc. Small section of high coil for treble notes (acidic flavors) and a bit of TH, larger section as a vertical coil (most balanced flavor is found in vertical wikicoil). Air goes completely under the top section and hits the vertical section full on. You can wrap up a single coil, put a drill bit in each end (touching end to end inside, off center) and bend it open.
