Well, I built a fresh coil on my Rm4 today and proceeded to vape the day away. Decided I'd try another coil; came out to .4ohms with 24ga kanthal. As I was setting the last coil in place I noticed one of the negative posts became a little wobbly, so naturally I pushed it back in and no more wobbles.
Then the problems began.... I rechecked the resistance, did a test fire, and the coils just weren't glowing like they were supposed to. I snugged up the positive post (new rm4 screws) and I usually turn lightly until I feel the slightest tension in the screw. The positive pin was spinning, and the Reo spring was burning hot. Short?
Now, it's not "collapsed" like I've seen in some pics, it's still very springy, but it's not as tall as it once was. And the switch still makes contact (Sony vtc5) Could this be due to general use, as it's not collapsed?
My other grand spring looks the same, and with my cyclone the spring does not get warm at all.
I think I hear Odin calling my name....

I killed 2 springs in the last Week. The first one did what your's did. I had a .25 Ohm build on an RM4 that made my spring sag, just like your's. The second one was just stupid on my part. I built a coil with a battery in, and between tweaking the drill bit in the coil and tightening the screw I hit the fire button. It burned the shhh out of my finger for a fraction of a second. I dropped everything and when I looked at the spring it was a pancake.

TLDR: That spring is toast.
