Hey guys,

I'm playing with a RN4081 atty that went cold on me. I thought I'd check it out before I dissect it.

It has continuity, so I believe the coil is still good.
The new attys show me 3.5 ohms.
The dead one gives me 85k ohms, leading me to believe that the coil may be shorted with excessive gunk.

Sound right to you?

Your atomizer is going to die just by you trying to get it to produce vapor. Not being an electrical engineer, it seems that something is impeding the flow of current through the atomizer coil. I have an njoy atomizer going back to njoy just for this reason.

If you are unable to return the atomizer for replacement under a warranty, try some of the less aggressive cleaning procedures in various threads on this forum. When I kill and atomizer, it is dead. So, I cannot recommend a cleaning/revitalizing procedure.

I have enough spares, but I like to make sure it's totally dead. If so, I'll disect it, and see what I can find. I won't throw it away if I know I can get one more puff out of it.

at 85k ohms it sounds like the connection is broken at the coil and the reading is just through the carbon buildup. Just a guess but that is a lot of ohms.

That's exactly what happened. I pulled the bridge, and the coil was broken inside the gunk. I put it aside. When I get a chance, I'll wind a new coil, and see how hard it is to get that tiny thing in the atty. I think replaceable coils would be the answer.

Hey Jim, did the new bunch of atty's you got have a large hole or a small one. I noticed a big difference in the two different kinds. My original was the big hole, probably why I love my 4081 so much. I am looking for spares to order but I don't want the tiny holes.

Actually never paid attention. I'll have to check mine out the next time I make it home. I got 25 more waiting for me at the house.

Jim, I would be interested in knowing how you make out with rewinding the atomizers. I still have not tried that. Keep us posted on your progress.

I'm a firm believer in sharing information. My problem is that I travel for a living, so "at home" time is very rare. And because of my travel, I sold my house years ago and live in a complex. Can't take care of a house if I'm not there. Which means I lost my work shop, but attys are tiny, and I can set up a portable work board for when I'm home. It's not perfect, but it works. I'll keep you informed, on any progress though.

Exactly 5 weeks to the day my 891 vaporizer died. That’s 35 days.
I took it apart and found that the wire to the heating coil had broken at the base where the wire comes in, and I suspect it burned out. The rest of the element was ok as it unwound completely.
The coil was caked with lots of baked on fluid. It was a crispy blob and flaked off when touched. That would explain the bad taste it had for the last week.
I’m wondering how to prevent that in the future. I’m a drysmoker, and I drip fluid down the side, not directly on the bridge that covers the coil as there’s lots of metal mesh wicking material around the heating chamber and it seems to work ok. But I do let it get flooded pretty often and I think that’s the problem. I’m going to blow it out when that happens and see if I can get 6 weeks on the next one
