Hey all!
Very new member/"vaper". Only my second post, I'm hoping this is allowed, and is in the right spot.
I've been reading over the forums, lots of good info here, but had a couple of quick questions.

I recently way overpaid the price of a newborn child purchased my first e-cig.
It looks almost exactly like the Smoking Everywhere but is called Smoke Free. While I can't say I'm overly impressed, I'm not actually disappointed either.
While the product was oversold to me, as far as battery life and cartomizer life, the unit isn't that bad in my opinion.

The cartomizers that are available (at my local mall or on their web site) have limited flavors and only go up to 16mg nicotine. No big deal I thought, I'll just get some blank cartomizers and/or refill the ones I have once empty.
Purchased some juice from a couple of sites recommended on here and thought I was good to go.

Well.....:
Even the carts from SF don't really fit tight. They screw on of course, but you can hear air when drawing on the unit.
If I hold it where the two pieces screw together, the draw is better, the sound of air reduced.
But... if I use one of the blanks I filled, it actually gets hot there. Not enough to actually burn me, or even be uncomfortable, but still hot.

So... am I doing something wrong?
Did I buy the wrong cartomizer blanks? (I'm thinking no as they are almost identical)
Any thoughts on this?

On a side note, I'm strongly considering going with either something from this page:
Electronic Cigarettes from Cigeasy - Home of the Easy E-Cigarette

or one of the starter kits from this company:
E-Liquid and Electronic Cigarette Shop - Category Listings

any strong opinions either way for either of these?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi and welcome - i can't really advise you what to get. But i can advise you take a slow long draw on your e cig. You should get more vapor and more throat hit too.

Get yourself a good e cig. One with batteries that last a while (all day). It takes soooo much stress and worry out of vaping. And if you're quitting analogs you need less stress.
Keep posting so we know how you're getting on.
I'm sure many will advise you which e cig is better.

I am one of the few that will stick up for the RN4081 atty---NOT the battery which is why I got into mods. To this day, I use the atty (a little work horse) for dripping.
If I remember right, there are different brands of the RN4081 atty so you have to be careful what you order.

The only time I used a cartomizer was when I first started but I didn't have any trouble with them.

If it was me I'd get the ego or riva 510 along with mega batts from liberty flights! I asked a similar Q when I first started out and was advised ego/riva/tornado. Other halfs using mine now and it's still going strong, excellent starter kit IMHO..like most things in life, nothing last's forever, so always try to carry a spare of everything if funds allow. Good luck whatever you go for!

You mean cartos (cartomizers) if they screw on, not carts. You can get them at some 7-11's too (Njoy Npro aka Njoy 2-n-1). SmokeStik (not Smoketip) is also RN4081. Other than that, it is not a very popular model.

Did you buy standard resistance blanks? I don't even know if low resistance 4081 blank cartos exist but if they do then they are NOT for slim batteries and are hot.

The other reason a carto might get hot - if you did not fill it enough. Cartos need to be totally filled - if it is a 1ml carto then I put 18+ drop of juices into the stuffing while holding a bit of tissue on the threaded end hole. I only buy soft-cap cartos, pop the cap, and add juice into the stuffing. You have auto batteries so you need to be very careful about leaks. AZSmokeFree.com sells a sealed-end manual RN4081 battery.

Another cause of heat if it is just one carto - it could be damaged and some wire inside could be pressed against another, bypassing a resistor or whatever controls the ohms of resistance. I have never gotten a carto damaged that way out of the box but I guess it is possible. It happened to me once after I poked something in the threaded end hole to try to clear some sediment from dried juice. If you poke anything in there, or if you poke a syringe into the stuffing, or otherwise manhandle the insides of a carto you can cause damage like that. If the carto is burning at too low an electrical resistance and getting really hot, it could damage a slim battery. So I recommend throwing that one out.

You can also try blanks from VaporKings.com (no relation to Vapor4Life), I think Aquavaporcig?, and I don't know is AZSmokeFree has blank cartos (I know they have the atomizers and carts and the manual battery which I much recommend if you keep using the system). Also check Njoy since their Npro is RN4081 (also sold in some 7-11's). And check NoSMokeVA - they sell a very nice PCC for both 510 and RN4081 (different threadings but it is a push-in not a screw-in PCC). Try one pack of RN4081 cartos first to make sure that's what you have because there is some Chinese wholesale model that is the spitting image of RN4081 or DSE103 but not compatible and that is used by some rebranders.

Thanks for the replies!
dormouse, I did mean cartos, thanks for pointing that out.

What I actually have, and they don't have much info online is this:
Smoke free electronic cigarette Big Gold Kit

(which is remarkably similar to this:
Electronic Cigarette - GOLD 2.0)

Only the guy at the mall "customized" my starter kit for me, so I actually have these two batteries:
Smoke free electronic cigarette Tattoo Red
Smoke free electronic cigarette Tatto Black

These batteries are auto I believe, and have a closed end. My eyes aren't what they used to be but I think the end you screw
the cartomizer onto is completely closed. I can't quite tell if there is a tiny hole or if it is very slightly pointed.

The rest of the kit was the same as the big gold kit, only they have a slightly newer version in my local mall that use these
instead of the atomizer:
Cartomizers 2x The Life - Smoke Free Online Electronic Cigarette

What I have purchased since then are these in yellow and black:
The Better Way To Smoke - Blank Cartomizer for RN4081 and DSE103,Yellow
The Better Way To Smoke - Blank Cartomizer for RN4081 and DSE103, Black
and one of these:
The Better Way To Smoke - 12cc Safety Syringe for Carto Refilling
They have the soft end cap, of which I have since lost two when they fell out. They don't seem to sit in the end of the carto
very well. They either "mush" into the end of the carto, or fall out on me.
Nothing against the company, good price, fast delivery, I have no complaints with the company.
And some different samples and flavors from freedomsmokeusa.
I have used the syringe, taking off the end cap, but I squirted the e-liquid down the middle of the carto.
I freely admit I have no idea what I'm doing. :)
I have used what I "think" is referred to as the condom method? Where you put juice into one of the clear rubber end caps
that come with the carto and mush the carto down into the end cap/fluid until it just starts to bubble out the other end.
I have removed the end cap, used the bottle of juice and slowly dropped onto the wadding inside.
I have no idea how to tell when/if I actually got any of them full.

Regardless of the method I used, the AZ blank cartos get, well, very warm. I did say hot the first time. I just tried one again, and the entire carto gets very very warm, from the contact point not quite to the soft end cap. The ones I bought from SF get barely warmer than cool to the touch just after dragging on the unit. The contact end of the blank cartos I bought are very slightly different than the SF ones. I can try to take pics if that would help.
Come to think of it.... maybe it was me, as the one that I just squirted the juice down the middle of the carto is the one that got the warmest during use.

Sorry about the long reply......

I do not use the condom method. I pop the soft cap of my 510 and KR8 cartos and drip into the stuffing while I hold a bit of tissue on the threaded end hole. Then since I can see inside, I clean it up - blow out the central air channel my cartos have, make sure threaded end is clean and dry, sop up any loose juice in the top of the stuffing.

if you are refilling cartos w/ auto batteries you need a spare battery and I strongly recommend the manual one at AZSmokeFree.com. No matter how careful you are with filling cartos occasionally one will leak. Auto batteries are the most prone to being damaged by juice leaks. If a carto leaks it will leak right above the end-of-battery hole and your necessary drag sensor is right inside there. Gunk that up and it will stick and maybe vaping not work or will kill the battery.

Hey Unfettered! I have a Smokefree among others and yes, its a RN4081. I've had *some* success ordering cartos, adapters, etc. for it, but it seems to be hit or miss. Even the Smokefree cartos have a big variation, some are silent, some are noisy as all get out. For a cig-sized PV, though, its not too bad (except for the cost from the original vendor), even the battery is decent.

I've had some success refilling the cartos, but only about 3 or 4 times, then the flavor goes downhill. Mine get warm, but never hot. It may depend on the amount of air coming in when you draw, though.

For refilling, I just popped off the white end plug and dripped in until it looks like a slushy. Blow out the extra, dry it off and go. The air hole in the battery is VERY tiny, but you still need to be careful.

I finally got tired of the hit or miss aspect and went with a 510 threaded PV (ego or riva). The "parts" seem to be more universal for them. But I still use the Smokefree sometimes, at least I can vape it with no hands :)

Hey ancient!
Thanks for the reply.
I have just ordered an eGo.
No hands? I've dropped it in my lap countless times trying to hold the SF like a cigarette with just the mouth! ha!

Overall, besides the price, I don't many complaints about the SF. Mostly the cartos and getting blanks to fit. Granted I've only tried one brand of blanks.
