Before i start playing, I have few questions to ask, i am a complete noob, thats why i am asking:

- The DID, is there no flooding trough the mesh hole? What should the rolled mesh diameter be, filling the whole completely,
having some space, etc?
- The hole at the middle of rolled mesh, is it needed? For the capilar effect the mesh does the work, is the hole only
as a side product of not beeing able to roll the mesh completely at the start or there is some function for it?
- Anyone tryed mixing the meshes, 500 in center to raise the liquid and 400 around it to disperse it?
- Heating wire rolled into the mesh, theoretically the vapor should be pushed out, althouth it might be quite violent
and therefore useless, but the energy would be used more efficiently.

It shouldn't flood, and you will get differing opinions from a little loose to quite tight. There is room to experiment here.

The hole is inevitable, and again differing opinions. Recently, the least amount of hole is said to be better for true capillary wicking. Otherwise there can be a 'volcano'/ straw effect, but you can pinch the top shut to eliminate if it bothers you. Traditionally a 'spiral rolled' wick was desired. If there is a solid column of liquid in the center of the wick, it still uses capillary action to get out through the sides to the coil.

Probably yes, but I'm not sure there is a noticeable benefit of doing this.

Sounds like a bad idea, if by violent you mean burning liquid, and I don't know what would push the vapor out, unless it is fire again. There is no airflow getting inside a wet hot wick. This one you really don't have to try. ;)

I hope this gives you some answers, and you really ought to jump in and start playing. :D

Thank you for the answers, the problem i have with the center hole is that i really hate taste of fluid in my mouth ;)
and i really hate cleaning the atomizer.

I have ordered DID, but I am having second thoughts about it, as i cant really imagine, how the f.i. having the device
turned around in my pocket can prevent the flooding. I havent found anything which would confirm that the flooding
does occur but nevertheless... well probably only the fears before getting it...

To give something back to the community, the magnetic stirrer (check my first post) really went well and my liquids
are getting ripe much faster (tested!) although i recommend going for teflon coated stirrer instead of trying diy.

I also disliked the center hole squirting juice into my mouth and went to the dense zero hole method. I tried to measure thermal loss between the different wicks at a thermal lab for jet engine vanes and couldn't measure any appreciable loss on 5 second burns between the two styles. To each his own and try each way until you find what you prefer.
