I was looking around for a decent 3.7v mod that would be rugged enough to carry around, drop, etc.
After looking around at all the different mods, I found the roughstack on MadVapes' website.
From the day of order, I had it in 3 days. Even with the Holiday mail freeze.
From the picture on the website, it appeared to be rather large, but it is in fact quite small. After frustrations with constantly charging standard 510 batteries, I decided to build myself a nicostick(thanks nicowolf!), and thought for sure that it would be larger than a 2xAA Battery box. It's smaller, and more concealable than my nicostick. It actually reminds me of a roll of quarters(albeit, about 5 quarters short of a full roll). Its dimensions are 1" in diameter by 2 3/8" long, about as tall as a standard 10ml juice bottle. It was a nice surprise, to say the least.
Being me, the first thing I had to do was disassembly. It's just as simple as MadVapes says it is. Simply remove the nut holding the switch on the top, and it pops right out. The switch has a decent feel to it, and hasn't misfired yet (been using it all day today).
18350 Protected Ultrafire Batteries go in smooth, no rattling when assembled. There is still plenty of space in there for funky batteries(fatter,or longer).
The atomizer connection works well. Every atomizer/cartomizer I've tried has worked well(Standard/LR cartos from electronicstix, Cisco LR 306, standard/LR Joye 510,) with good air flow. No backing the atty off a half turn, these are tightened down all the way, and still flow perfectly.
All that being said.. this think is tough. You could probably use it to knock out an attacker, and then have a relaxing vape afterwards. The finish is actually quite nice(I got the rock tumbled finish), and looks like it would accept paint, powder coat, or decals well if that's what you want.
The bottom of the battery housing has two 2mm vent holes for safeties sake, and the joint where the top cap meets the battery housing nearly disappears when tightened.
Overall I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking for a stout 3.7v device, with plenty of battery life. I'll probably be buying a maxi roughstack for my 6v vaping needs.
