The Roughstack operates at 3.7V which I believe is slightly than an eGo at 3.4V (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong).

Also, it doesn't have the electronics the eGo has which are susceptible to failure when using low resistance attys/cartos so you can use whatever you like on them. I think they are a reasonably priced intro to 3.7V vaping although you may run into issues getting juice in the switch or having the internal spring properly connection with the center contact pin in the connector. There's several threads over in the Madvapes forum on that.

Thirdly, the Maxi Roughstack lets you try different voltages with different battery configurations.

I bought the maxi roughstack and it doesn't fire. I'm not sure if it's the batteries or the roughstack. I bought both at the same time from madvapes, and they haven't responded to my three attempts at filling the so called ticket.

Do you have a multimeter? If so, test the resistance of your carto/ atty. Then test the voltage of the battery. IF they're both giving "valid" readings, then it's probably the spring not sitting on the center post properly. That, or the center post isn't in contact with your atty/ carto.

Love my Maxi RS with dual coil cartos. Had to use the shorty extention with 510 to ego adapter to make the EGO DC Maxi carto work with it, but I like them too. I did have a problem with the dollop of solder in the center of the cap being too love for the 123a batteries to work properly, but the last one I got was perfect. Now if I could only get end caps for the EGO DC maxi cartos, and a better mouth piece, I'd be in heaven!
