I was running a .5 ohm coil on my rsst and when I pulled it apart to clean it the center pin had a large buildup of black sludge along the length of it. Does anyone know what this could be from? I did get the silver plated center pin. I don't know if this could have any effect but had never seen this before on the original pin.

juice is definitely getting inside and building up. is it tarnished? or does it come right off? its just the nature of the beast in gennys, especially cheaper ones that every time you tilt juice comes up & down, eventually it gets into the center. silver tarnishes quite a bit, so my guess is a build up of tarnish from the juice. a silver polish should work to remove it.

I'm assuming that with the heat generated from such a low ohm coil it just got cooked in there. A lot of it came off but I will have to polish it up. Thanks

as long as the finish of the metal is intact no worries i suppose. what type of wick you running? mesh, rope, ceramic?

One flaw with the RSST is that the top insulator beneath the spring will leak juice down the center. The problem is that the insulator doesn't hug the center pin snug enough, which allows juice to leak by. Two solutions: If you happen to have an AGA-T2, the top insulator will hug the RSST center post better than the original RSST insulator does. If you don't happen to have one of these AGA insulators, you can wrap some plumbers' teflon tape around the RSST center pin. Go around enough times so that it's snug inside the RSST top insulator. This will stop the leaking.

400 mesh rolled almost solid. 4 wraps of 26 gauge kanthal. I don't really mind the little bit of leaking. It's not much, I guess I've gotten used to it. When adjusting my coil the top deck got pretty hot. I'm sure this heat transferred to the post and the metal tube that runs from the top deck to the bottom deck. Must have had liquid in there that got cooked.
