@Katya, no worries. She already has a setup that I put together for her, a Smoant Battlestar Mini with vaporesso Drizzle tank.

Just that the coils are not as easily available and they don't last that long.

Why not try her on the Innokin Zlide or Zenith tank?

@AngeNZ, they're good options. But as far as I'm aware, there's no TC capable coils.

Plus another thought of mine is that she smokes roll ups, so something that she would have to work with a little may be good. Plus it's a cheaper option in some respects.

I think that I may have to make the spaced coils for her and fit them. But it's worth it, if it gets her to finally stop smoking.

Another option is to buy a bunch of premade coils--many places sell them and they are good. She'll still have to work with them. But I agree that main thing is to get her to quit smoking. Good luck! You're such a good son!

@Katya, I'm a fair few AU's (Astronimic Units = 149.6 million kilometres) far from perfect and it doesn't take long at all to make 2 spaced coils.

My trick is to wrap 2 together at the same time, then It's like you wrap 1 and get 1 free.

Oh, I agree. I make my own, too. I love my little coiler gizmo!

Nice trick. I make contact coils and stretch them out if I need a spaced coil. :D

@Katya, next time try making 2 coils by wrapping a parallel coil with 2 strands of wire at the same time and then unwrap the 2 coils to get 2 spaced coils. If you want to really get them really uniform it's best to use a tool to slightly space the wraps before compressing a coil, I use a nail file on a penknife as it's about perfect at 2mm thick.

It works extremely well with plain wire, I've never tried it with simple complex wire such as claptons though.

But I'm somewhat old school and wrap coils by hand with Stainless Steel knitting needles, as I haven't had much luck with specialised coiling tools. Every time I tried to use one it looked as though I'd chewed the coils, and I like them to look nice and be functional as well.

@ShowMeTwice, unfortunately my vape budget has been overextended for the foreseeable future. :(

Still waiting on some Ulton Taifun GX RDTA clones, I'm hoping that I'll finally get my Ma to switch from smoking to vaping.

Hopefully they'll be something that she can work with.

I have an update for you. Stay tuned!

I would get the SXK Nibiru. Ulton always seems to have questionable o-rings (RTA's and RDA's) that need replacing w/quality ones. Both include the three chamber reducers.

The Nibiru RTA is an original Moddog and Svapodromo collaboration. The authentic is 120€ and currently only available via a FB group. I won't do FB groups for gear. Svapodromo is supposed to have it soon. I'll grab the SXK (per FT they ship on 7/23).

@Katya, will you do the honors of telling our friend over there? ;)

So are spaced coils considered better for MTL?

When you get your tools and RTA's try both contact and spaced. See what suits you best.

I do both and find either works well for me with MTL/RDL and every once in a while DL.

Here is the easy way to do spaced coils (from a tutorial I did on the Project X).

IMO nothing beats a good coiling tool. I used to use drill bits and screwdrivers. Also used the wife's narrow knitting thingamabobs.

But spaced are a must for TC, or so I've been told.
Yes, spaced are a must for TC. I vape TC and also wattage mode about 50/50. Best thing about TC is I never have to be concerned about frying my wick. I can run a tank totally dry and my wick is fine.

Awesome. I should be getting my kit in a few days. This will be useful.

    Why is that?

    Why is that?

That's what TC does. You set your desired temperature, I never go above 420 F or so,usually lower than that, and your wick will never burn because the mod's circuitry will always prevent the coil temperature from going above the set limit.

There's been a lot of conversations and speculations about the exact temp. at which cotton begins to burn, but it's neither here nor there, because the wick in a tank is always wet.

    Temperature Control (Autoignition of Cotton)

As @ShowMeTwice has already said, spaced coils are neccessary for TC to work. It allows the resistance change to be measured correctly, as the last thing you need is for the wire of the coil to expand when it's heated and for it then to have the wraps make contact with each other and the resistance of the coil then drops.

In that curcumstance you'll end up reaching a higher temprature.

And I've found pretty much every clone RBA is consistent with dubious quality o rings of questionable sizing @Katya, but at least o rings can always be easily enough replaced.
