safe to use RBA on mechanical mod?

Is this safe without a kick or 2 cent with an unprotected battery? I've heard of shorts causing the springs to collapse but could it potentially turn my Telescope into a pipe bomb? I do have a kick on the way though, but this thing is hitting like a freight train and I'm really digging it.

Are you using protected batteries? Are you checking your RBA with a meter before using on your mech mod? Are you wrapping your coils at less than 1.5Ω?

In general, I don't like to run mechanical mods with NO protection, and certainly not with stacked batteries (which is probably not an issue for you since you indicate using a single battery). Obviously, you'll be fine when your Kick arrives ...

I used my vmax to check the ohms and it rates at 2.0. I am using unprotected batteries but one single 86500. The thing that perplexes me is that the Telescope gives a better vape than the vmax or vamo. As a matter of fact it drastically out performs both hands down. The rba in question is a Cobra, do these devices not work well with post modulated devices? I kept rebuilding coils because the vamo was giving a low ohm warning and the vmax was giving too hot a vape.

Yes you can use an RBA on a mechanical apv. You want to use only the IMR batteries, they are safer than protected li-ions. You do want to meter everything, make sure you keep your switch clean. I would never stack batteries in one. I keep my coils around 1.2 ohm and use only mechanical with my RBA's.

Also make sure when you are first wrapping your coil to use a half drained battery, this will help keep it from popping as soon as you hit the button if you have any hot spots.

Many people love the kick, I didn't like it so gave mine away. But I like to vape over 10 watts which is the limit of the kick.

I can understand the Vmax hitting hotter, but the Vamo should be pretty solid if it's the latest version ... I'm not familiar with the Cobra (that's a SS mesh atty, yes?), so I don't know how pulse width modulation (PWM) might affect it. Perhaps one of the Cobra threads might give you a hint?

A lot of people love it, I didn't even know what watts I was vaping at til I finally got a meter (yeah I know stupid on my part), but I learned to adjust my coils to give a good vape that I liked even as the batteries drained. When the battery gets to about 3.4 I notice the difference and I change batteries. Also with a mechanical make sure you are metering your batteries when they come off the charger and before you charge them as well.

It's the ss Vamo from Health Cabin, they call it the Bamboo. It actually hits harder than the vmax, I could only vape at 6.5 watts until the vapor tasted kinda burnt, with the vmax I could vape at 7 watts. I will look for the Cobra thread and see if anyone knows.

did you make sure your running the vamo in rms mode? it hits very hard in the other mode. i use a cobra on both a provari and the bamboo and they vape like beasts.

and if your going to use a RA on a mech just make sure to set it up on something like the vamo first so the protection kicks in if you short out.

Yep, it's on the mode 2 or whatever it's called. I made that mistake on the vmax once and almost blew a lung out.

does the kick have a fuse or safety? dunno never used it. but if it works fine without it i would just pick up a 2cent fuse and leave it as it is.

since its unregulated it should hit very hard till the battery dies down.

but too the original question with a protected or imr battery the chance of pipebombness is rare but could happen this is what vent holes are for, the explosion would only occur if a venting battery has nowhere for the gas to go. the batts themselves melt down and vent not explode, its the sealed tube that causes the pressure to build turning into a grenade.

I got my kick in today and built another coil for the Cobra. I think (hope) this new coil is a winner. I have the kick set at 7 watts, 8 gives me a little too much warmth to my vape. There is a fairly steep learning curve and people like Scott Bonner just make it look too easy.

I have the same Cobra/Smoktech telescope setup as you but I use AW IMR batteries on this and any other mechanical mod I have just to be sure. And like someone already suggested meter your batteries & know what Ohms your coils are at. BTW doesn't the Cobra look great on the telescope? With both pieces having the dots on them it's like they were made for each other.

Yep, I like the way it looks. What gauge wire do you build your coils with? I didn't have much luck with the supplied stuff at all.

30 AWG with a 7/6 wrap at first, but I got some 28 gage A1 Kanthal in about 2 weeks ago & with a 6/5 wrap it is a steam train! With thicker wire (28 & 30 AWG) I make a coil on the shaft of the cobra hex driver first, insert it in the wick hole and secure the bottom wire. Then I pull the top wire tight with small needle nose pliers and wrap & tighten the top wire to the + post. Dry fire to make sure all coils are glowing, insert my wick, adjust & dry fire 'till no hot spots are seen.
