OK, so i've been vaping about a year and a half now i guess, but I am a commercial fisherman, and have grown tired of having to either use snus or bum cigarettes from the deckhand. I work on an open hull vessel with no protection from the elements... My concern is what can i do to vape on the boat? will my cartos corrode and my PV rust? it seems like a no win situation except that my job pays well. But i hate wasting money on snus and what not when already have everything to vape with. Is there a mod anyone knows of thats durable enough to ride it out on the boat. It would have to be sealed well and at least 5v or VV. I thought about a waterproof case forr my PV but when your getting sprayed with saltwater and tossed around the boat, I need something thats made to last, or at least cheap enough to replace when it craps out. IDK...

I like Tj's plastic bag idea. I'd go full bore with that one. I'd use an inexpensive all mechanical 3.7 volt PV with vents and a master shut-off switch. Then, put the whole dang thing in a plastic bag, poke a very small hole in the bag and force the atty/carto through the hole so it was water tight. Then seal the bag. Separate bag for chargers and stack of batteries (below deck) maybe in a fire-proof box.

The bag is not a hazard since in the event the unit vents, the bag would just go pop. The PV should be vented though. I'd also consider IMR batteries in that situation, but if not, make sure they are protected batteries. This is the normal recommendation anyway. I'd flip the master switch off when not vaping it.

If you insist on 5v or vv, try a box mod in the bag. Also I wonder if leaving air or other floating stuffis in the bag would allow it to float and not sink. Would be a heck of a bag. lol.

The reason I'd prefer an all mechanical well vented mod with a master switch....there's no electronics to heat up in an air-tight bag. Just use LR atties/cartos (like 2.0 ohms, or even 1.7)

I don't have any suggestions for you.. but just wanted to add that by seeing one of the guys on Deadliest Catch vaping was what got my attention to PVs in the first place! I was watching an episode of After The Catch and Josh, from the Corneliea Marie was using an "electric cigarette".. I thought "Hmmm.. interesting".. then did a bit of research but wanted to try one first hand, so I went to my local mall and paid $108 for an expensive, crappy kit. Came home and found that each cartridge DID NOT equal a pack of cigarettes so I did some googling and found ecf. And also found that I had purchased just about the worst device I could have purchased!

Although I have VV PVs, I still use eGos when out on da water. Yes, I've drop 'em several times in salt water. Quick wipe down, carto change and away we go. Plus they're inexpensive for da vape ya get. Maybe an eGo VV Twist ($23)?

I wonder how well a GLV that has been fully powered coated would hold up. I've seen a few people talk about dropping them in regular water and having them survive. But at $120 to start, not exactly a cheap way to find out. Could be worth asking around in the Great Lakes section to see if anyone has any experience using them in harsher environments. I'm thinking that a fully powder coated model would be somewhat protected against the elements.

Outside of that ... I would imagine that a home build mod could be crafted that is fairly resistant to the elements. Lots of RTV silicon or the like sealing up the seams, good gaskets at any open and close point.

Yeah, but on 2nd thought... IDK how it would draw air into the atty/carto. Use a BIG bag. lol. OK not.

Many PVs have sealed tops tho... so if you could clear the air holes, and still have the bag waterproofing the rest, it may help.

I also don't know if attaching zinc or whatever it is that they attach to ships/boats to stop the corrosion applies here since the electronics would be cooked regardless. Plastic sounds a lot better than metal IMO. Still gotta be waterproof. Salt air... hey, whatyagonnado?

So I bought this pelican case that is a champ. Not to mention a REO grand so I think I'm as close to the safe margin as can be. Idk about the attys being ruined but I think I can spare one or two here and there. With the bottom feeder I can put it back in the case when I'm done and not have to fiddle with it. Thoroughly impressed with the grand and the pelican case is outstanding. If anyone is looking for a good case even for land dwellers, pelican makes an awesome choice. Would post pics but kinda not sure how. Lol. Happy vaper here!!!

I don't think I'd go with anything expensive. Whatever you take out there is going to suffer from the elements. Something like this box mod from madvapes is cheap. However, if you are the least bit handy with a soldering iron, you can make one for a lot less. They have the kit for $7.99. Really you might do better just getting the parts rather than the kit. I'd probably take a few with me and if they got messed up, toss them and make a few more.

Lol if someone modded a small pelican case. It would be genius. For my line of work anyways. I just can't vape like I do at home. I have to put it back when done and close it up. There's no avoiding elements when offshore unless you're fishing for fun in a yacht ...not on our vessel anyways....

well.....i think you should give it a go. it would be genius! no yacht is truly dry off shore. i would buy one. the bf and i sail quite a bit, the right equipment makes all the difference in the world :)

Wow the Rubicon? It looks just like (get this) a pelican case! Nice. Now if only it was bottom fed. Lol can't ask for too much right? And it floats and 6,000 mah? Beast mode fully sealed. Two 18650s? Definitely a monster. My gf is going to think I'm addicted to buying pv 's. Oh wait. REO arrived yesterday LT last month. But this is for work right? Tax write off? Lol
