Okay, so weird thoughts go through my head on the way to work ... That's ADD for you.I've noticed on my sweet flavors, all of them are bumped up in flavor with the addition of sweetener. Since the tongue only picks up sweet, salty, bitter, sour & unami, I'm thinking maybe the sweetener acts like a carrier or enhancer of the other flavors to the tongue.
So the idea that went through my head was whether or not savory flavors such as bacon, pizza, McRib (yes, I saw this somewhere) maybe buttered popcorn could be made more flavorful with the addition of a salt factor. Admittedly, I haven't tried any of these savory flavors, but ....
All of this makes me think of the candy in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory that tasted like a meal.
