Hi! I'm new to vaping, but advancing quickly. I smoked menthols for 40+ years, & never even tried to quit. I picked up an Ego set up 15 days ago & never looked back. I still have an opened pack of analogs & lighter on the table, where I see them all the time, just to see if I am tempted. I laugh every time I see them. I may glue them down to make sure no one decides to toss them. I have no intention of going to 0 nic, but never say never because, oh yeah, I'm not smoking. Smoking is something I enjoyed, vaping is even better.
So, here's my question. I'm past ready to move on from beginner stuff. Tired of refilling, & recharging multiple times a day. I've ordered an MVP2, & Nautilus tanks to go with. I want some variety. I want another option for something to last a heavy vaper all day. And I mean into the next day. I don't mind carrying an extra battery, I just don't want to have to carry 3-4 extra batteries, plus juice, plus blah, blah. I've looked at Iclear 134, the SVD, & others. I either find there's either no mention of protected/unprotected batteries on the company sites, or they specify unprotected batteries. I only want to use protected batteries. Period. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm fighting going Provari, but I know I'll go there.

Hi Kenna!
Can I ask why you want to only use protected batteries? The thing is, you're looking at "protected" mods... In other words, even if you got a bad coil or got into rebuilding your own coils, the mods themselves won't allow you to "blow anything up" LOL... If you put in a coil that was shorted it simply wouldn't work... I suppose in a very rare instance the mod itself could fail in some weird way that would allow it to outgas the battery, but in the same respect so could the protection circuit in the battery itself!

Either way, in general any of the mods will use a protected battery if that's what you purchase, you just might not get the kind of performance out of it you're looking for... I remember when I first started vaping I had a bunch of 18650 batteries around from flashlights... They were protected batteries and though they were very high quality, they just didn't perform in my mods... I only use unprotected cells now... :)

Protected ICR Li Ion Batteries
* Lithium ion class batteries, also called "protected batteries".
* These batteries are now considered obsolete for mod use because of their potential for flames & explosion.

Here's a good blog post by Baditude (our resident battery/safety expert): Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?

- choose the safest and right battery for your applications here. Includes a list of name brand, high-drain, safe-chemistry batteries with mAh & amp ratings in 18350, 18490/18500, and 18650 sizes.

Hi Kenna

You may just want to hurry up and wait on the MVP to show up first. You still have the eGo batteries as what will then be a secondary option, and most people easily get two days run time between charges on an MVP. At least then you will be exposed to the jump up in features that the MVP gives you, and that may lead to more/better questions on what you would like to get next.

If Provari is where your heart is. Then you should have one. But they are VV only. Their is rumor of a VW version coming but no actual sightings to my knowledge.
On protected batteries being used in protected mods. Overkill and you've severely limited your choices in batteries.
I use Protank 1/2, Pruitank, Kayfun with atty resistance between 2-2.5 ohms. I run either a Vamo or Cloupor DNA30 mod at 5-7 watts. I use Panasonic NCR18650PF batteries and vape heavily for a full 24 hour day (6-8 hrs sleep time of course).
NOTE: The Pannys are rated at 10Amps so, sub-ohming is Not recommented. And they are not protected.

Hey neighbor!! I'm just up the road from you!! Welcome to the forum, Kenna... you will find more help here than anywhere else, I promise...
All very good advice in the above posts... Susan's link to Baditude's blog is definitely worth a read! He has done the research and knows more about batteries than anyone I can think of!
I agree that the MVP will probably serve you well for a long time... the Provari is a great device, it is built to last and has quality that you won't find anywhere else.. at a price... but also look at the IVP 2 50W mod... cheaper than the Provari and a lot more power... I guess what I'm saying is, look around, make your own decision without worrying about what any of us think, and then vape on!!

The P3 is right around the corner actually. Yes it should have Variable Wattage.
There have been sightings and demos at some Brick and Mortar stores.
I am so looking forward to trying it out at my local B&M.
I think one of my local shops is thinking of getting one.
The P3 is in beta right now and may come out in a short time.
You can read about the Provari 3 in the Provari section of the forum.

Or you can do this in the meantime.
Get Verified for the Sale or Trade forum.
Maybe you can pick up a Provari 2.5 for a decent price here.

I love my Provari wished I wouldn't have waited so long to buy one.
PS I have never missed Variable Wattage since I bought my Provaris!

Ok, sounds like I may not need to worry about blowing things up because that is why I was going that direction.

You've made a great choice with the MVP. I suggest sticking with that for a bit, as in months, to figure out where you want to go. The MVP will last as long, if not longer than any other mod ( a couple days at least). Don't have a Nautilus but there's a lot of fans here. When the time comes and you're ready for rebuildables, look at a Kayfun.

Welcome Kenna!

I went through a progression of devices, and am now sitting on three MVP2s and three VV3s (MVP's little brother.) MVP2 is great for long battery life (as I have it in my hand almost all my waking hours :D) Variable Voltage and Variable Wattage. However, I am finding I'm toggling settings more than I thought I would because my coil heads vary somewhat in resistance (I rebuild my own) Very smooth vapes. I am seeking something "bigger and badder", but I haven't seen anything that's caught my fancy. I don't (currently) sub-ohm or drip. Just use a lot of EVOD heads and a few kayfun (clones). I'm in a happy spot. Anything else would be more for "play" since I really have everything I want/need at this time.

I've beat smoking cigarettes now (just over 5 months since my last one) This is more hobby now. Finding yummy flavors and playing with my kayfuns is my new vice.

Best wishes - hope you find something new to try

Ha! Looks like hurry up & wait is probably what I'll do. I do want a second style. I'm kinda in "new toys" mode I guess. Plus, no woman wants to wear the same thing every day!

Thank you! I love it when someone tells me I can have anything I want! Provari Dragon, both sizes, please! I know it's supposed to be Dealers only, but I've seen them for sale, & where there's a will there's gotta be a way!

Hey! Seeing a lot of local people here. Local refers to the entire State. I'm so new I want some input. I read the battery page, it is great info. I'm working my way through the newbie stuff now.

Thanks for the info on getting verified. I haven't been in those sections of the Forum yet, but itching to get there. Provari seems to be winning!

I'm looking forward to rebuildables. I love to tinker, & being retired have time to do it. But being retired means a budget, so, yeah, probably a few months away. But that gives me time to look , question, & research!
