I just purchased a SB off the classifieds and am starting to wonder if it is the older short bottom version.

I purchased 2 RCR123A 3.0V from madvapes (Protected 16340/RCR123A 3.0 V Lithium Ion Battery) and while I can thread the top and vape at 6V's ... there is a gap in the threads.

I was hoping you all could tell me if the gap is due to an older version or because I purchased the wrong batteries?

Also, do you think it would be OK if I put a gasket in the gap?

Thanks!

I have those exact batteries and the same issue. It seems those batteries might be just a little bit oversized.

Sorry but I don't have an answer or a solution for you other than trying different batteries. I' not sure about a gasket or spacer because the threads wouldn't have a full bite and it may weaken them.

Turns out for me, 6v just was too much for the juice I use, slightly burnt taste. So I'm pretty happy with the 18650 set up.

Good luck.

A lot of the batteries come in all shape and sizes even if they're the same type. As long as the batteries don't surpass 69mm* (wait for chad to verify :p) in length you should be fine.

(We do not encourage people to stack cells, in fact we say not to.)
From: BatteryJunction.com: (Tenergy RCR123A)
LI-ION-Cell's Dimension: 16.5 D x 34 H mm.
LIFEP04-Cell's Dimension: 17mm Dia. x 34.5mm H.

With two of the batteries above (which we say dont do) you get 68-69mm in Height. So what's the dimensions on the madvape batteries?

I would say, if there is a gap don't use them.

Also the easiest way to tell if you are using the older version is by looking at the battery. If you are using 18500 batteries, then you are using an older version :)

When you stack two of those it is 72 mm tall. That is why there is the gap in the threads. I was going to order those too for SB but noticed they were a few mm taller than the 3000mah 18650 I use and taller than the Tenergy RCR123a's I use for 6V.
