I had been vaping for about a month when I started getting the scary side effects that I heard can occur from the PG vapors. The jitters, insomnia, chest pain and palpitations ect. I was only using a 6mg nic level so know that was not the problem. I got rid of all my juices (broke my heart) and immediately took the advice of many ECF members and ordered 100% VG juices from some recommended websites. Only problem is...now I'm scared to try again. I know this is a common problem from what I read here but any positive input from anyone with the same problem would be appreciated and hopefully prompt me to try again... I desperately do not want to go back to smoking!!:(

I am not expereinced in the all of this as I am new to vapping but I wanted to say that as scary as it is, going back to analogs should be just as scary to you. The rational side of our brain tells us that smoking is deadly, but our addiction says "it doesn't kill everyone" I know for me, watching my father die due to lung cancer was a huge step in my switching to ecigs. I wish you the best of luck and hope that VG juices make a difference.

I find this intriguing and I'm sure it was a very scary thing to happen. I was wondering where you heard that PG has these side effects? I'm not saying it can't, but I'd really find it very useful if you could point me in a direction to look this up.

Reactions to pg or vg just happen sometimes and I'm yet to hear of somebody reacting badly to both pg and vg.

Just keep in mind that the juice you have now is very different to what you had.

You have to stop letting fear get in the way and just jump in. Its the only way you'll know for sure, and knowing is better than worrying in this case.

Good luck, I hope you're able to make the switch with a minimum of fuss. :)

Over the edge...
I started with VG juices on the recommendation of a friend. Moved on to some high PG juices to try the flavors and had some side effects - mostly mouth and throat itching and dry skin. Switching back to nearly 100% VG took care of that within a week or so. I love PG, it just doesn't love me. Don't give up. Lots of vendor offer juices at 100% VG or very close.

Hi, where did you hear this?
The only side effects of PG ibe heard of (assuming youre not alergic to it), is slight dehidration wich is fixed by increasing your water intake.

Im not a Doctor, but im willing to bet those are actually nicotine withdrawal symptoms rather than effects from the PG.

Just for kicks, why don you give a 24mg juice a try?

Even if that doesnt work, dont go back to smoking man, "The jitters, insomnia, chest pain and palpitations" are FAR better that EPOC and lung cancer! :)

In August 2009, I began vaping with pure PG (from China), and it was great for about a month...then the insomnia, muscle pain and chest pain (sore lungs mostly) put a stop to it. I never completely stopped vaping, but went back to analogs more than half the time.

Then I found VG, and AFTER I UPGRADED MY HARDWARE in September of last year, I'm vaping full-time once again.

Interesting thing is, I've been experimenting with juice and find a mix of PG/VG (ranging between 80/20 to 40/60) works very well for me. The more PG in the mix, the more likely I am to have sore muscles if I vape a lot, so I try to stay near the 50/50 mix.

My 6 month anniversary is coming up this month, so I'm really doing GREAT this time! (I still have 1/2 a pack of unsmoked Winstons on my desk, and they will have been there collecting dust for 6 months on the same day as MY anniversary. :D)

Don't be afraid...unless you go back to the same juice as before!
(Try some of the Organic juice from VapeRite. Todd has some very clean flavors that vape well, and they're made in USA.)

GOOD LUCK!! :)

outside the box
i have the thousand razorblade throat hits, in the sinus and lungs, only with the PG, and it seems that only happens on std res atty's if I draw to hard and dont let the coil heat up enough... just an observation, but even that is nothing like the bout of the razors I had my first few days when I was vaping dry hits and hating it but not knowing and continuing to hit it... bleh, icky, ouch.....
not an issue since dropping the res and knowing better how to hit it.

Not the best source to quote, but here is what an allergic reaction would be. Contact dermatitis means a rash. I have to agree with Benzin, what you described sounds like nic withdrawal and perhaps a bit of fear of the unknown tossed in.

Allergic reaction

Research has suggested that individuals who cannot tolerate propylene glycol probably experience a special form of irritation, but that they only rarely develop allergic contact dermatitis. Other investigators believe that the incidence of allergic contact dermatitis to propylene glycol may be greater than 2% in patients with eczema.[35]

Patients with vulvodynia and interstitial cystitis may be especially sensitive to propylene glycol. Women struggling with yeast infections may also notice that some OTC creams can cause intense burning.[36] Post menopausal women who require the use of an estrogen cream may notice that brand name creams made with propylene glycol often create extreme, uncomfortable burning along the vulva and perianal area. In these cases, patients can request that a local compounding pharmacy make a "propylene glycol free" cream.

Additionally, some electronic cigarette users who inhale propylene glycol vapor may experience dryness of the throat or shortness of breath . As an alternative, some suppliers will put Vegetable Glycerin in the "e-liquid" for those who are allergic (or have bad reactions) to propylene glycol.

A Swedish study published in 2010 strongly suggests a connection between airborne concentrations of propylene glycol in houses and development of asthma and allergic reactions, such as rhinitis, in children.[37]

Here is a quote from another site, about nicotine withdrawal symptoms (ibe underlined certain ones, see if they seem familiar :) ).

What Are the Symptoms of Nicotine Withdrawal?

In active tobacco users, a lack of nicotine produces a wide range of withdrawal symptoms, including any or all of the following:

Headache
Nausea
Constipation or ........
Falling heart rate and blood pressure
Fatigue, drowsiness, and insomnia
Irritability
Difficulty concentrating
Anxiety
Depression
Increased hunger and caloric intake
Increased desire for the taste of sweets
Tobacco cravings

i got that info from here

Not to insist, but i would give a 24mg liquid a try.
I use 12mg liquid (thats about to change), and i have severe nicotine withdrawal symptoms. Considering you use a 6mg liquid im willing to double the bet that what you are feeling is NWS.

Hope this helps

I too was scared abit, when I got my first sore throat. I was immediately alarmed and did a search on sore throat in the forums and found that not only was I not alone, but that it was indeed just that..Nicotine withdrawal. I too was using 6mg liquids and increased my nicotine to 16mg. Still not sure if that helped....but the sore throat went away.
