Hello fello vapers,

My name is Danny, aka Scratch E, aka Itz Scratchy. Be fare warned this story is long and probably boring so I apologize ahead of time.

I'm 27 years old and I've been smoking a pack a day for 9 years with severe asthma (2 attacks a day, and using that awful over the counter inhaler they banned). I have been vaping for over a month now, and my usual 30 packs a month has become 1 pack in the last month and I owe it all to vaping. Majority of that one pack I smoked was during a 4 day cruise I just came back from, and excessive drinking on a party boat when you're on vacation can do that to you lol.

I'm back on track now, no cigs for the last 3 days and I don't see them in my near future. The fact that I've been able to accomplish this is a miracle to me. I've tried cold turkey, patches, lozenges, you name it. 3 years ago I tried BLU and thought they were awful and drove me back to cigs after a few days. 2 years ago I gave Greensmoke a shot and it was the same thing. Then when blue came out with their new fancy pcc and cartos a while back I gave it one more shot which lasted me about a day. Wasted all that money and went right back to cigs immediately.

This time around I've stuck to it. So here's where the second phase of my journey into the ecig world began. Over a month ago I accidentaly came across a few youtube videos on Safe Cig. They showed the CEO speak on a news show and he spoke very well of the industry as a whole. I decided to purchase The Safe Cig micro as my first kit (i know its not very popular here). The appeal was these things were really small and truly resembled the perfect size of a real cig. I am a menthol smoker and they were sold out of that flavor so I tried their tobacco flavors and thought they were awful. I was bummed but determined to see of there was anywhere else I could find a menthol carto that worked with the kit. after lots of grueling searching I found ECF and discovered that any 510 carto would work.

So I looked for a vendor while I waited for those safe cig menthols to restock and i found liquidxpress. I ordered a 5 pack of pre filled cool rush menthol and I was in heaven. They were slightly larger in diameter (I later found that safe cig uses 306 cartos), but they did the job and did it well. The throat hit and flavor was great. Vapor production was very weak but that didn't concern me much.

After finding ECF my curiosity kept peaking so I continued to read on here to see what the best stick style battery out there was. The 2 biggest ones I found here were V4L and Volt, and I decided to go with V4L. These worked pretty well at first but felt too long and heavy for me, and the flavor wasnt nearly as good as those XL 510 cartos. Then I read that Volt and Halo cartos worked really well with V4L batts so I ordered a bunch of those to try. After a few amazing hits of flavor, they all went to hell. Every carto (about 15 of them) would have a nasty burnt plasticy taste that was unbearable and I couldn't figure out why. So I had a friend of mine try them, he liked them, so I gave him my v4L kit with all those cartos.

Back to the Safe Cig I went. The flavor and throat hit I was getting was great, but then one problem started to bother me a lot. I was carrying 5 batteries everywhere I went which was a pain, each battery would die in about 30-45 mins, and then I'd have to go home and charge 5 batteries and wait and wait and wait. So I continued to read in the forums. At that point I refused to get bigger, longer batteries. I thought they looked stupid and were too much fuss and I hated the concept of manual batteries or mods. I told myself I'd never want to really get into this industry that much and just keep it simple, but the inconveniences began to aggravate me, so I gave in and bought my first non cig style PV, the KGO.

I was forced to buy a red one which I wasn't too happy about since black was sold out, so this hesitant venture already began on the wrong foot. Then when I got it I couldn't stand the fact that I had to keep pressing a button that I wasn't used to, and then press it even more when I needed to shut it off or back on. after a few days I got used to it and fell in love with the lady in red. I loved the KGO so much I ordered 2 more in black and I was set. I was only smoking 1 or 2 cigs a week at that point while I began my new hobby of reading these forums for hours a day, learning about so many different things it blew my mind.

At this point I told myself again I wanted to still keep it simple and just stick to pre-filled cool rush lx cartos, and my kgo's. Then I remembered that Halo sent me a free 10ml bottle of Belgian Cocoa. And that bottle just sat there for weeks, and I couldn't bring myself to just toss it away. So again I hesitantly gave in, and tried filling a carto myself for the first time. I thought it was a big pain, but I did it and the flavor was really nice, so it was worth the change of pace from my menthol. So after hating filling cartos for a while, I got used to it and realized it was the only way to get much better flavor than the pre filled, and it was much cheaper.

I wanted to stop myself from getting into it anymore than this, and not deal with things like clearo's, VV devices, MODS, tanks, etc. Then after doing more reading and watching reviews, I hesitantly gave in to the VV world and got myself 3 EGO-C Twist batteries (I lost one first day on the cruise ). Man, I love these things.

Finally, I decided to enter into the clearo world for the first time so I got myself some Flux Phoenix BC XL Cartos, and ventured into the syringe fill world. These things haven't been perfect but they've been awesome and I don't think I can go back to my Boge's anymore.

My next venture will be into Tankomizers (Phoenix BC 3ML), so we'll see how that goes. I'm also finally slowly giving in back to trying juices (I tried 18 flavors from a vendor and hated all of them so I went back to my usual 2 flavors and have been very hesitant to try new juices as a result).

In conclusion, I'm glad I got into this so much (except the part where I've spent so much money trying out stuff lol), and since I stopped analog cigs my breathing has become way better, I have far less asthma attacks (haven't had one for 2 days and thats a record for me since 10 years ago), I feel better, my teeth are getting whiter and whiter, my home, car, and body don't stink anymore, and I think the best benefit has been being able to do things in bed with the ladies that I havent been able to do for a couple of years lol. I hope this only gets better and better, and I'd like to do reviews, and maybe even become a vendor in the future.

Thank you for reading my long, boring tale

EDIT: Thanks to elfstone for reformatting it in paragraph form :)

hi and welcome,

First off congrats!!!! It is not easy finding what works for you and what doesn't, and yes at the start we all spend more than we should or at least think we should. As far as not liking any of the juices you got from one vendor, as you already know there are lots of great vendors out that and everyone has what they like or dislike, so don't give up hope.

Congrats Scratch (does that almost rhyme?):)

I too had breathing issues and since vaping am off the Advair and haven't needed an asthma inhaler. Feels good to get the monkey off your back. On the juice thing, it's a crap shoot. There is a cool vendor (Rawr Vapor) that will put menthol in any flavor they sell. Best bet is to make sure you have enough of something you can at least enjoy and then look for sample sizes to try some other flavors.

Greetings from Canada! Welcome to ECF!! Congratulations!!!

Let me be honest. Your post has way too few paragraphs.

Your story, on the other hand, was spot on! It made me realize that I am used to hearing people complain about all the money spent on trial and error vaping. It also made me realize that when everyone (myself included) complains about the money spent to stop smoking, we don't actually start complaining about the money until we mention vaping. Most people got to vaping after trying every way possible to quit smoking. Over the last 30 years I have spent thousands of dollars on pills, patches, gum, inhalers, hypnotism, books, tapes, videos, and CDs. A few helped me long enough to pay for themselves. Most didn't. I never thought to keep track of how much I spent.

Now with vaping I am keeping track of everything, and complaining, even though I am now in the black and have been for a while. I still spend, but only within the limits of what I am ahead. And I am complaining. I should be throwing a party!

Thank you for your post. It really did make me think. That's a good thing!

Congratulations for sharing that your determination is finally paying off. You are to be congratulated. Your story will help others see that the road is not all smooth but you can persevere through to your goal. I know many people who would only use e-cigs only if their operation could be made as simple as smoking, unfortunately. We are a long way from that day. The people who are determined, will succeed!

Relax, Enjoy!

Great post, Scratchy! Welcome to ECF and congratulations on your transition! I'm sorry, I just couldn't read it without paragraph marks, I mean no disrespect.

Brave enough to read the post??? How about you were brave enough to write it!!! And even more so brave enough to keep on with vaping despite so many problems you had with it.

I LOVE reading stories/posts like this because as someone still in my single digit days without a analog it gives me encouragement that no matter what happens along the way I can succeed!!

I have said it before and I will say it again, ECF has been AMAZING in helping me get started with a PV. Time, frustration, and LOTS of money have been saved already thanks to this forum & its members not to mention inspiration from stories like yours!

Thanks for sharing & keep up the great work!!
