Searching for consistency before quitting

Hi all.

Short story long...along with many others my first foray into ecigs was the Blu battery pack, short battery life and flavors that died quickly-blah blah blah. Under the advice of many here, I moved up to ego batteries and evod clearos. I figured out the intricacies and maintenance of my setups, which I actually enjoyed. After trying many many different flavors,I fell in love with EC Blend Dragon's Cafe, a thick sweet coffee. With a 1.8 ohm coil at 3.7 volts i can get about 1/2 ml vaped before its burnt or tasteless, about which one out of four hits taste good. Really good.

So good that I wanted to keep trying, trying to find a setup consistent enough to help me quit smoking. Again after perusing the many excellent forums here, I bought an iStick 30W/ Nautilus Mini setup. Sleek and cool looking it is. Looking forward to the extra battery life over my 650s. Well-following every instruction on priming, starter settings, etc I'm still no better off than with my ego/evod. One out of four hits is fantastic, enough so to keep me trying...raising the watts slowly until it stars to taste funny, lowering until it isn't firing, all over the place. I've settled around 7.8w on the 1.8ohm coils, using the second and third holes, still rarely getting a really tasty hit. The juice is 50/50 at either 6 or 12mg fwiw.

So am I s.o.l. with this flavor? Is there a different setup I should try? Are there different settings on the Mini that I could try? I am jealous of the many many here that have found their flavor/hardware setup satisfying enough to quit smoking. Kudos. Good luck. Thanks!

I have tried that. I originally bought two Nautilus Minis, both come with two coils. After trying both coils from one on different flavors and not liking the outcome, I returned the other to the store. I have seen the posts suggesting there are newer coils with bigger weep holes, which are on my radar to try. I just don't have the resources to throw around without making sure I've done everything I can with my current setup and juice. Thanks.

If you still have the evod clearos, you may want to try rebuilding one of the atomizer heads. It's a lot easier than most think, and if done correctly the flavor will rival that of a true rebuildable atomizer. A bit of 30ga kanthal wire, some cotton or rayon balls, and a 1/16" screwdriver or drill bit to wrap your coils around will cost next to nothing compared to getting a new setup. You can use the istick to check coil resistance as well.

Google "rebuild evod coil" and you'll see no shortage of tutorials. I personally keep evods on hand for when I have company interested in vaping, and use them myself from time to time with great results. I build them to around 1.4 ohms, wick them with rayon, and run them at 15 watts. They handle dark/thick juices with ease.

Thanks to all. To BeerGolfClouds...question regarding your "evod coil rebuild", 1.4 ohms at 15 watts puts you clearly in the red according to the Vapor Power Chart. This doesn't matter, or doesn't run to hot? Or that's around the temp/volts that will burn thick juices satisfactorily?

Those charts are a bit out dated. They are meant for like the protank single coil heads and other early single coil clearomizers.
The wattage something vapes well at has to do with the heat flux of the wire - which is determined by the number of wraps, number of coils, the size of the wire used (gauge), and power applied to the coil. You can use Steam-Engine.org if you know enough about the wire, but really the best thing to do is what you already have done - start low with the wattage, gradually increase it until you find its sweet spot (or taste starts to deminish or get burnt, then back it off).

As far as getting consistancy, have you tried other juice brands? or mixtures (higher pg)?

Vaping "dark colored, sweet and thick" juices pose a problem with almost every clearomizer I've ever tried.

If you LOVE the taste, you might consider adding some plain PG or distilled water and see if that helps some.

think you're going to have to move to wrapping your own coils

If you decide to wrap your own coils I'd suggest getting a real rba... Rebuilding protank heads is more pain than it's worth imo

I sure hope one of the suggestions you get here will help you. I just hate seeing anyone get discouraged. I have read so many positive comments the iStick 30W and the Nautilis, is there anyway that maybe one or the other is not functioning properly? Just a thought. Good luck to you and let us know how you are doing. I'm sure there will be even more suggestions here because there sure are a lot of people here that. . . care. :)
