I started with XHaleO2 about a year ago - picked it up at 7-11. Absolute, total junk - went back to analogs a few days later. Seriously, do not buy anything XHaleO2 has to offer. Out of all the mistakes in kits I've made, this one wins the grand prize for junk.

Skip forward 1.5 years. Now a father to a 5 month old, totally awesome baby boy. Tried to quit the day he was born - lasted two days. Last month I set a goal to permanently switch to electronic. Unfortunately for me, I really don't see a time in my life without smoking - be it vapor or smoke. I freakin' love to smoke. I can see a 0 nicotine day somewhere in the future, but never a day without vapor. What a boring life it would be :)

I did some some quick research, trusted some online review sites and decided to purchase blu and geensmoke starter kits. I figured between the two, one had to be a champ.

greensmoke has really nasty tasting, way overpriced cartos. blu just doesn't pack a punch, you constantly have to charge the tiny batteries, and most of the flavors are too sweet or too rich (felt nauseous, sometimes); however, between the two, I was able to cut-down to one analog cig per day - trust me, this was a tiny miracle.

I did have to chain-vape to feel partially satisfied. Coming from ultra-light analogs, 1-2 packs per day, neither brand got the job done. If you're a heavier smoker, I think it'd be extremely difficult to switch to electronic using either brand. Bottom line, they're not worth the purchase.

My next kit was a Joye 510-t - thanks to this forum. tanks do leak - all of them - very annoying - switching to a carto. But, I didn't do enough research, and after a weekend with these, although much better than blu and greensmoke, I decided to purchase a Joye eGo MEGA (650mah). You can do the math - I've obviously wasted quite a few bucks not having done proper research. Nonetheless, I'm set on my goal.

So, now it's my second day with Joye eGo. I finally get the complete feeling I've been looking for. There are a few downsides already with the stock kit. I wouldn't say tons of vapor (not consistently, at least - more consistent with the 510-t), but I'm still adjusting to the manual switch. Flavor seems muted compared to the 510-t and there's a faint plastic taste with each draw. The sample liquids I ordered (60/40 mix) may not have a lot a flavor to begin with, so this could be part of the problem, but more samples are on the way.

I did have to burn away excess on each new atty. Before doing this, vapor production was low and each draw had a burnt taste to it. The ego is the first kit to actually make me cough. The 510-t was close.

Like many, I originally wanted the slim size for portability and familiarity. To be quite honest, the 650mah size is perfectly fine. It's not an inconvenience whatsoever. The long lasting battery life is terrific. Again, the manual switch is a change, but minor compared to the overall experience. It does tend to get stuck every now and then.

I've been disappointed by all of these starter kits, in one way or another. For the Joye kits (510-t and ego), it sucks that you apparently have to upgrade components immediately. After the 510-t experience, I ordered a range of different atty/carto's at the same time I purchased the eGo kit. I like to tinker, so I can't complain too much. Still, after all this wasted money, a turnkey solution would have really been nice. Maybe the Riva is just that kit. Dunno - but I decided to stick to Joye products now knowing that they have a good rep and warranty.

Morale of this story: don't waste time with the slim sizes. Just don't do it. Seriously, don't :) eGo size or equivalent with manual switch. I now have a good starting place to experiment and to find the combination that works well for me.

Your experience closely matches my own. Indeed, the parallels are striking.

I was a heavy analog user as well, and made more than one attempt to switch to vaping with one of the cigarette like-alikes (Green Smoke). While I still had the products of tobacco smoking in my system, I found Green Smoke to be unsatisfying (although, I actually like most Green Smoke flavors. In fact, I actually miss their Red Label tobacco flavor now that I've moved on.)

Once I had made a firm decision to quit tobacco cigarettes, and managed to go cold turkey for a short time, vaping was much more appealing to me. I think the cigarette-like size and look of the Green Smoke was an aid making the transition, and automatic batteries are also a big plus when one is first learning to vape.

But I realized that there were better products available. I wanted the freedom of choice offered by 510 hardware, and I wanted access to the huge array of flavors out there, so I - like you - bought a 950mAh Ego-T pass-through and equipped it with dual coil cartomizers. The cost was less than any of the kits and because I spend much of my day in front of a computer, I didn't feel that I absolutely have to have a spare battery. The volume and consistency of the vapor is light years beyond what any of the cigarette styles produce.

I'm still a neophyte with limited experience, but I do have a very good brick and mortar vape shop nearby so I have had an opportunity to try out some different products. I agree with you that none of the starter kits compare to fat batts or mods, with the possible exception the Smoov, which is a very economical 510 mini that comes with 2 180mAh batteries and refillable cartomizers for around $60 and has the best vapor production I've seen in a unit of its size.

I had blu first. When greensmoke arrived, the flavor change was a warm welcome. The minute I switched to liquid tanks and tried to go back, the fun had ended. My taste-buds were starting to come back after the death of the analogs. I'm sure that had something to do with it too. I really don't like pre-filled carto's anymore. I force down remaining blu and greensmoke during charge times :)

Try holding the manual button for a second or 2 before you start your drag for more vapour. I have found that you do pay a little more for better tasting juices, and the higher vg content = more vapour.

I was playing around with this exact suggestion today. I do a 1-2 second hold, drag 3-4 seconds, release while dragging for another 1-2. This seems to work really well for me and vapor is fairly consistent. Flavor is still muted - may be getting too used to the taste. Thanks!

One of the carts seems to have a problem with the polyfill sticking to the atty, too. Strands are hanging out and I get a nice burnt taste until I adjust it again.

I skimmed this forum and left with "get a 510-compatible kit", not really paying attention to slim vs fat. Had I read a few more posts, maybe it would have registered. Who knows... If the 510-t was the first kit I bought, I wouldn't feel so bad.

What I really wish is that I had found this forum before this whole charade began. Even so, it's been fun getting all this new stuff to play with. Too bad the bulk of it is now obsolete

my friend look no further. get your self some boge lr cartos and try them out. if you like them, you can grab some smoktech cartos which are bigger and hold more juice, but try the boge ones first to see if you like them. they are awesome and they pack a punch my friend, you wont be dissapointed. the batteries you have are just fine.
