So I bought a igo w some kanthal and cotton to get into the world of rebuildables last night and I built a dual coil setup. Coulds are good, flavor seems good, but Something just seems a little off...

I used a 26 guage kanthal wire wrapped 9 times it came out to about .8 ohms I use either an efest or Sony 650 battery both are rated at 30 amps, I used sterilized cotton that my b&m gave me, at least I assume it is, I bought a bag of balls and am going to boil them today, I think that may be the issue. But I figured I'd post a pic and get some advice if something looked off...

Also I just bought a hcigar m16 sentinel clone and the trigger doesn't seem to be working right, sometimes it's fine sometimes it's finicky and I can only fire if I push directly up from dead center of the button, as stated I've only used 650 flat top batteries should I look for button tops or is this an issue with m16 clones??

Anyway here's the coil setup, should the wick be browning quickly? This is it after a few hits then after a few sessions...

It not unusual to have some color change happening with use, even on clearer juices, so i wouldnt worry about that.

Regarding the switch, it does requires some tweaking. The main issue being it likes to loosen up and conversely if you tighten it too much it can cause fire issues (like youre experiencing).

I found where i liked the throw/fire of the switch and used conductive loctite on it (may lead to issues later when trying to disassemble and clean), or you could always sand down the black delrin a bit to improve the firing with your current switch throw, but thats a permanent modification obv.

@gro Thanks, I really like the m16 I was planning on a nemesis type clone but when I went to a shop to get some kanthal this caught my eye and I figured I'd upgrade my k100 so far I'm a big fan!

@xtwosm Alright just making sure, I assumed it would be closer to the color of the juice but glad to hear it's normal.

I took the latter approach and sanded it down, I basically had to take it down to nothing before I got a consistent fire but it's working great now and I couldn't be happier! Side not I spent a good two or three minutes frustratingly trying to screw on the locking mechanism before realizing I'm a ..... and it's reverse threaded lol

@Bigflyrodder Thanks a lot! I spent a decent amount of time doing research before I jumped into the whole thing so glad to hear my time was well spent!

Yeah it does hit great on a fresh battery but those don't stay fresh for long lol, I don't have much of a reference but it's exponentially better than any of my clearos or the dripping attys that came with my k100. My issue is the flavor just seems a little off not sure how to describe it just not as pure as I expected I guess...

Also what kind of voltage drop should I expect under load? My multimeter only does a single decimal so right now I'm looking at something in 0.5 range that sound about right with this setup??

You might need to fine tune the button on your M16 a little. Here is the procedure for an Astro that should work fine on your M16: How to improve the button of the Astro mod by Kato - YouTube

That's exactly what I did and it worked great for my Sony battery but my efest doesn't like it, it's kind of concave on the negative terminal and I don't want to sand it down any further than I have.

Is there any reason not top flip the battery over? Should be fine right?
