For the past few days, I've been perusing this forum and absorbing as much info as I can... I didn't realize there was that much to e-cigs. I sure am glad I didn't blindly order the first one I heard of.

Background...
I've been a Camel Light smoker for the last 15 years. On average, I'd say most of that time I was a pack/day smoker. Over the last couple of years I cut back to a about half a pack/day by no longer smoking in the house and have even continued to smoke less and less since then (last month I was probably going through a pack every 3-4 days - sometimes longer). I've "quit" a couple of times (one time for almost a year), but two things always seem to drag me back to the habit; stress and drinking. As with most smokers, a few tokes off of a smoke always seem to help me relax. When things get stressful for me, usually one of my first thoughts is, "Man, I need a smoke." The other aspect, drinking, gets me worse... To me, there's just something about a beer and a smoke.:thumb:
In fact, I've gone through extended periods of time (that's why I put the word 'quit' in quotation marks above) where I don't smoke at all unless I'm drinking.
In the last 3 weeks, I caught the "quitting bug" again and haven't had a full smoke unless I was drinking (1-3 cigs once or twice a week). A handful of times over those 3 weeks I got a bad craving for a smoke, grabbed my "drinking pack", and went outside with the intention of having a full smoke. Luckily, all of those instances resulted in taking a drag and feeling absolutely disgusted by the taste. In the past, I would usually ignore that disgusted feeling, smoke the rest of the cig and a couple hours later it would be much easier to smoke another... and so on... eventually leading back to smoking on a regular basis again.

Whew... that turned out a lot longer than I expected... Sorry.
Anyway, enough of that... On to some questions/advice seeking...

My appologies if you think the info I'm seeking is found easily, but my eyes are kind of bugging out of my head at this point from reading this forum over the past few days.

With my limited smoking habit do e-cigs seem like a viable alternative to analogs?
From what I have gathered so far, I'd say yes. For my situation, I'd probably end up spending more per nicotine fix than if I were to smoke analogs, but the possible health advantages, the taste-factor, and the idea of being able to smoke in ban areas is really swaying me towards the e-cig.

Anyone run into (or foresee) problems with atomizers or batteries that sit around without being used on a regular basis?

TIA for any suggestions/info.
You guys have a very informative site here... Well done. :thumb:

OK, here's my situation & I hope it helps you make a decission...

I was a 1 1/2 pack a day Camel smoker. I got my first e-cig because of the convienience of it, NOT to try to cut back or quit. I LOVED smoking, but I play alot of poker and you can't smoke at 99% of the tables here. I got my e-cig so I wouldn't miss any hands taking smoke breaks. Again, I had NEVER intended on quitting. Turns out, I PREFER the e-cigs (Bada-Bing my weapon of choice) and haven't had a real cig in 2 weeks, and guess what, I don't miss them one bit. I still drink like a fish, swear like a sailor, and puff away like nothing has changed, except now I don't smell bad, don't wake up coughing my lungs out, and don't have to leave the poker tables every 1/2 hour.

Hope that helps.

Maybe just get a peewee or mini kit and some flavorfull (menthol) juice with real low or no nic and go at it. You probably will spend more money in the beginning, since you're not a big smoker. But I'll bet you'll quit this time for sure.

Sorry, I can't help you out on e-cig sitting around, unused for awhile. I think all of us here use ours pretty regularly.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I got a used one from someone on here - they hadn't used it in a while, and when it arrived, there were not any problems with it. Just make sure it's primed and the batteries are fully charged before you use it - same as buying a new one.

I, too, would suggest low or no nic liquid - you definately don't want to go to the higher strengths or you'll end up in nic OD, especially if you've lowered your tolerance to the stuff by cutting back or not smoking certain days.

I used to smoke 1/2 pack/day of Basic Menthol Ultra Lights, and the low nic liquid is more than enough for me....I got some medium strength liquid in by mistake, and within the hour had one massive headache.

Thanks for all the replies so far guys.

To be honest, I was pretty much sold on it before my original post.
I'm not trying to quit nicotine altogether, and I'm not too worried about the effects of the small amount of tobacco cigs I smoke now. I just think this could be the best way for me to remedy my occasional nic craves without the nasty taste, smokey clothes, and possibility of picking up a regular smoking habit again. Hell, I don't think I'd be too concerned if I ended up vaping on a regular basis. That is unless some long-term effects are found to be linked with vaping.

Just ordered a 901 starter kit along with a few extra supplies.

It will be interesting to see how long these batteries and atomizers last under my limited nicotine habit. - If it stays limited. :D

Thanks again guys.
