Hello all. I’m contemplating converting a VV Grand to an 18650 mod and would like to get some opinions from coil/battery gurus on ECF (especially if you also use a Woodville)

What has happened is that I dropped the mod and now the button is stuck in the depressed position. I’ve fiddled with it for a couple of days and can not get it “unstuck.” After correspondence with Rob, it looks as though it will have to be sent in for repair. I’d been thinking of switching my VV’s to 18650s for a while now, and it seems as if the time has come.

No one posted photos of the hole in the side in the other VV conversion thread, and frankly, I don’t think I would care for that anyway. Plus, I hold my VV’s and regular Grands differently and I know if there was a plug in place I would always be trying to depress it like a button. Finally, I’ve tried holding the VV like I do a Grand and mini-- and it seems uncomfortable holding the longer mod in that fashion. (has to do with my little finger placement) I’m sure I would get used to it, but Rob has agreed to convert the mod to an 18650 battery while retaining the side button like on a Woodville if I wish.

So here are my questions:

First, I run a 0.8-1.0 ohm coil on my regular Grands and have been very pleased with them since changing the contact and spring. I know by retaining the button that I will have a larger voltage drop than I would by going purely mechanical. Would a Woodville type setup handle the load if I were to drop my ohms 0.6-0.7 to compensate? It will be running on a Chalice atty if that makes any difference.

Next question is for the folks who have already converted their mods. Have you had any difficulties holding or firing the longer mod when it has a top button? I normally fire a VV with my index finger, and the Grand with my thumb. The bottom of a Grand rests on my little finger.

I could always just have Rob replace the switch and keep it VV, but my 18350 batteries are getting pretty old and it would be nice to not worry about keeping them in pairs, running them too low, etc.

Sorry for the long post, but I’d like to be sure of exactly what I want before bothering Rob with a conversion.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Another option would be to get the switch replaced since the board is ok, put it up in the classifieds, and use the funds to get a new shiny of your desire. VV Grands still have a demand and typically move fast when posted in the classys.
:2c:

Well, I hadn't considered that. LOL, thanks for adding something else for me to consider :)

The hole from the original switch on mine doesn't bother me. I'll eventually do something with it.. ;) With a button cover installed, I find the switch comfortable to activate using my thumb.

I only use the mod with an Evolv Kick 2. It's safety features, consistency, ability to fire as low as 0.5 ohms, and true 6 amp limit suits my vaping style to a "T'.. Being able to use it with an 18650 in the converted VV Grand has been a dream come true for me. :smokie:

I considered having a solid copper spacer made to accept this type of fuse, although the spacer Robert supplied will more than likely be fine for my needs if I wanted to use the mod in mech mode.

Thanks for your reply! and I guess I should look into the Kick2. I have the original Kick and it really didn't do too much for me. it's been sitting in it's box on a shelf now for I don't know how long.

Thanks again.
