I have been asked to order a set up for a friend of mines wife.

Recently on a fishing trip he saw me vaping instead of smoking. He knew I had smoked for 30 years and now almost a year later and now - no analogs. He tried my Vamo/Protank 2(with rebuilt rayon coil)/ 18mg DIY liquid, and liked it... a lot. He had previously got her a cig-a-like kit that she didn't care for and now wants me to order a kit for her that she will like.
They are in their early 70's and probably don't want anything that requires much "fiddling around with". She is about a pack a day smoker.
My thoughts are to start her off with either an MVP 2 or a Vamo and I clear 16's, or a ego type twist (maybe both) and some 50/50 24mg RY4 type juice.

Again they are in their 70's and probably not going to spend any time on computer forums, you tube etc...
any thoughts?

(btw: both my Vamo and my MVP 2 fell in the water...Vamo survived, MVP did not)

If they have someone close to keep a eye on their toppers I suggest a IBtanked tank ...I have 2 for my mother and when she see's its getting empty I clean and refill for her. Can;t go wrong with them. And she likes the tighter draw.

Plus I got her a MVP cause I figured if she could charge her phone at night she could handle charging that. I don't recommend clearomizers off the bat cause they are prone to leaking sometimes

I love my eGo CTwist with T3S. No fuss, easy to fill easy to pocket or put in my purse. I don't know if there is time or a b&m near you or her, but that might be a decent way to at least show her what's out there in terms of getting started and flavor tasting. I found I like other flavors way more than tobacco.
ETA-I was a PAD smoker and found 18 mg to be enough to quit the first day I got my set-up

Well I'm 73, and this is what I vape.

However I started out learning with a little ole eGo-T. Regardless of age, a person still has to learn how to use this stuff. So start them out like you would anyone else.

I'm not up on all the new starter setups so can't help there. The 24mg stuff might be a bit much for a pack a day smoker. I think 18mg would be the most I'd suggest and that depends on the equipment.

I would also be mindful of the type of bottle the liquid comes in. Some of them (hard clear) are almost impossible to squeeze. Also having the right type of dropper for the equipment makes a big difference.

My personal opinion is that most people of the older generation may balk at the size/form factor of an MVP...at least initially. They may find the slimmer pen-style ego batteries more acceptable. I love the MVP and often recommend one to novices, but I suggest consider the generational factor and resistance to change that might be present here. A Vision Spinner or iTaste VV3 may be a better choice. IMHO, the Spinner's knurled voltage dial is easier to use and read than a Joytech Twist's, especially for older hands.

Juice attachments should be chosen by how easy they are to fill and maintain (replacement of coils). Maybe provide both a top coil (iClear 16) and a bottom coil (Aspire CE5 or Kanger T3S) clearomizer so that she can choose which one she prefers. Basically they all work & perform the same and it boils down to a personal preference.

Make sure juice bottles have easy to use needle-top bottles and have easy-to-squeeze plastic bottles. Some juice bottles are very stiff and would be hard for arthritic/weak fingers to use.

Two or three different tobacco flavors might also be wise. Not everyone likes a particular flavor and everyone has their own personal palate to taste. If you don't like a flavor you won't use the device. Be sure to buy the appropriate nicotine level to the number of cigarettes the smoker uses a day. 12 mg is a good starting place for a pack per day smoker.

Demonstrate how the stuff works. Then have the couple themselves demonstrate that they know how it works. Write down simple instructions on how to turn the device on and off, how to fill the tanks and clean them, and how to replace the coils.

Find out if they are computer/online savvy. Link a vendor website on where to order replacement juice and coils. Many older individuals may not be computer-friendly or know how to order online.

Prepare for the unexpected; backups for the backups.

And she my very well grow into this :D I am 66 years young. I have an MVP but still prefer my Vision Spinner batteries with and eVod on top. The dial on spinner is the easiest I have found for setting the voltage. I have an eVod and a twist battery and find the spinner is the easiest to use. The eVod juice holder is bottom coil. It makes for a nice cool vape and is very easy to fill and maintain. Good luck in your quest to help her.

I'm sorry, but as a mature lady, I BLANCHED at the size of a Vamo when I first started vaping. IB Tanks are NOT a good choice for someone with vintage hands. Your BEST BET is something a little more feminine and definitely on the smaller side. Itaste vv, Higher mAh Spinner or Twist with a simple little throwaway topper in a pretty color. No fuss. Cheaper eGo type battery for her backup. Even a cE4 is better for an older lady than anything larger or fussy. If it stops working, she can throw it away...buy her about 5 to start with. This way she will not feel intimidated at the onset.

Later on you can introduce her to the "joys" of a bigger tank, rebuilding, larger batteries/mechs, whatever. A smaller rig will help her make the transition from years of smoking to vaping. Bigger equipment does not appeal to many women of the earlier generation. I KNOW there are many exceptions on ECF, but in real life, even a simple eGo set up with a cheap clearo can be confusing (and heavy) on the older feminine hand.

Started last year at 69 yrs on an MVP. Deciding factor was battery life and being heavy enough to remind me to keep a hold of the thing. The last few yrs of smoking found that if I was preoccupied, I was dropping my cigarette because I forgot I was holding one! Sides, the MVP not that heavy and really simple to use.

I still use them and the ProVari even at the 18650 length. Of course, being retired and at home most of the time, I don't care what it looks like to others.......Then again, when I do go out, I don't care what it looks like to others......Getting crotchety I think. :p

I've been using the ProTank and Davide tanks and have learned to rebuild the coils when I originally didn't think I would. Just recently have gotten the Aspire 5 ml and mini Nautilus with the new BVC coils and enjoy them too.

They may enjoy seeing my interview with Dimitris, The Vapin Greek. Am holding my white mini ProVari in the 18490 mode with a big honking Molehill Mountain drip tip!

Think you'll be surprised at how quickly they'll catch on. ;)

Gotta second the ego twists or vision spinners with a couple of backups, all in a higher mah battery with a quick & easy throw-a-way topper for ease. Along with a nice selection of 12-to-18 mg juices, they'll be set for a good while.
If they take to these, I'm certain that their collection will grow to include all the stuff they ever could want or need (just like the REST of us!)
