I've been MIA due to serious cigarette cravings and trying to figure out what was causing severe dry throat and heavy chest. My lungs felt like I had bronchitis or pneumonia - something I haven't had in 20 years. I read a few posts here and there, but was afraid to contribute, not trusting my thoughts. I was seriously out of my mind wanting a cigarette - making me cranky and moody. I'm very happy to report I did not light a cigarette. Not one. WOOP! WOOP! Also, after taking my new kayak out for a test spin at a little lake, I came down with dry throat & heavy chest. I initially thought it was season allergies kicked off by the lousy pond we went to. I couldn't take a normal pull/drag using ANY of my e-juices for over a week or more. That exacerbated my cig craving, bad mood and added anxiety to the mix. I researched, of course, and was left to conclude my problem was one of, or a combination of, the following:

  • Seasonal Allergies
  • Illness (cold/flu/bronchitis/pneumonia)
  • Cilia Lung Repair (I did cough up a little phlegm)
  • Dehydration (though I was/am drinking an enormous amount of water)
  • Too High Nicotine (12 mg)
  • New Sensitivity to VG or PG (Some of my juice was 50/50, 60/40 VG/PG and some was 70/30 VG/PG)
  • Even considered too aggressive draw and pull

I took one of my tried and true allergy pills and was able to pull tiny, gentle, (totally worthless) little puffs without choking & coughing. But it didn't last long. A few days later I realized, twice a day - morning and late afternoon, I could vape my heart out for about 10 minutes and then I was right back to coughing and feeling like I was inhaling glass shards. After trying everything - even changing coils and reducing volts and/or watts - I broke down and bought a bottle of VG and added one-third of a tank to my favorite juice. I have no idea if it was timing, medication or the VG, but for the first time in over 5 days I was able to hit my Sid like a boss and did I ever! The entire next day I added VG to everything I put in a tank (1/3 VG to 3/4 Juice).

That was 3 days ago. Today, I have been vaping 6 nic juice without issue. I am beginning to think it was a combination of seasonal allergies, cilia lung repair and an oncoming migraine. When the migraine was treated and the pain masked, I immediately lost the craving for a cigarette - weird, huh? Which helped me relax a little (maybe?) and eased the tension I was causing throughout my muscles and throat (?). I'm still coughing a bit of phlegm here and there, and dealing with seasonal allergies, which is why I think it was a combination and not just one standalone item. So, so happy to be able to vape normally again. Hang in there! You can make it through too!
:)

This sounds like a Medical Issue and we do NOT give out medical advise except to see a doctor. Will say to make sure you hydrate good when vaping. You may have had the smokers lung thing. If this reoccurs I woulds sure see a doctor. I had something similar but not that bad.

First: I'm not giving medical advice. I'm sharing my experience.
Second: I was never dehydrated.
Third: My actual point is, through my long winded post, it might not be just ONE thing. It could be a combination of things.

Had the same problem for a bit too in the beginning though it wasn't as severe as what you went through. Found that having some milk, yogurt, ice cream helped a lot. Just something to coat the throat. It might be worth your time to go through this thread here http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...s-flavor-add-ons-em-vw-bw-mts-acv-ect-14.html for their discussion on how to make the juice "wetter." Adding a bit of .9% sterile saline solution or one of the other things mentioned in that thread might help you out too. I hope it was just the allergy season--it was hellacious for me this year--combined with just being a new vapor and it is all over and done now. Best of luck to you.

combined with be a new vapor and it done now.
Wait.. Combined with "being a new vapor" you got me freaked out now lol! I'm cutting my stinkies while I get the right nic & gear. I've got my date to stop & expect lungs to obviously have some issues & vapor tongue I've heard of BUT.. This, or [maybe a milder sickness] happens to new vapors? Just curious...
FYI... NOT giving medical advice cuz I no doctor but, that sounded like a horrible week & my allergies are bad right now. Chest part, how long have you been vaping? I'm just in transition of making the switch so props for no smoking! Glad your feeling better now:)

Sorry to freak you out, didn't mean too. I'm sorry.

There may be some obstacles is your way as you recover from BT's curse they've placed on you. The dry mouth and throat thing is usually a "beginner's curse" until the body adjusts and water intake is increased (no, soda, coffee and booze aren't water). If it matters, I've vaped (exclusively) for 16 months and do have an allergy induced asthma. First spring vaping was hell, this year's hay fever the worst I've ever had but there are environmental reasons for that that have nothing to do with vaping.

You may have what seem to be bizarre symptoms that you won't even attribute to quitting so you might as well know them now. Not everybody gets them and certainly not all of them. I smoked for 43 years and had always considered myself lucky that I hadn't had zits when I hit puberty. Imagine my surprise. Here's the list but keep in mind that for most of these you are healing. You're on ECF and you have a plan = you will succeed stunningly.

Here's the list of symptoms which also includes symptoms of starting vaping http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...hen-quitting-tobacco-changing-ecigarette.html

You may or may not go through the coughing, dry throat thing. Everyone is different. My son went through it really early after quitting - like a week after. Here I was, well over a month in, and dry throat started.

I've been vaping for 49 days. For me, the chest part - heavy, bronchitis feeling lungs - is gone. No issue. I have not been able to pinpoint what caused it. Allergies? Over vaping? Illness? My mother suggested it might have been an allergic reaction to dander from the goose feathers at the pond. I am hyper allergic to feathers/down, birds of all kinds. This pond and the small grassy area around it was riddled with feathers, geese, and their poop. I honestly have no clue. I would have made an appointment to see a doctor if the symptoms had not gone away when they did. Not treating bronchitis or pneumonia is dangerous. Better safe than sorry.
