Aren't you a bit afraid to let your buddy swim in salt water? I've heard horror stories of dogs drinking salt water and dying, I live by the ocean but have been wary of bringing my dog to the beach. She's not the sharpest tool in the shed about certain things.
I’ve been doing it for years and he’s over 10 now so not too worried. Never heard that before I’ve heard of dogs Mabye getting the runs if they drink a lot and mine will get dehydrated but he’s usually fine once given a big bowl of water.

Only a dog too dumb to live would drink enough salt water to die.
That's not exactly accurate, when you have a dog at the beach for hours they get hot and thirsty. Even if you have water for them they are a dog, they don't think hey I'm thirsty so I think I will stop playing and go get a drink when they are in water.

I don't think dogs process salt the same as a human but I'm not a vet so I don't know that for sure.

Maybe so, but I'd still bet a fairly large sum that cases of fatal saltwater ingestion among dogs are few and far between.
I agree with that, it's not something that happens a lot. But to the few it happens it's surely terrible.

I see it all the time where dogs swim at the beach and have never heard anything like it could be fatal before . The lakes around here get this blue green algae you have to be careful of even walking your dog around the path of the lake could be harmful when it’s in bloom. You never really know when it could come even if signs arnt up it could be lurking and just starting up So it seems to me the ocean is the safer option

There are harmful red algae blooms in the ocean also.
Yes I’m sure there lots of stuff In the ocean that is harmful as well. Just don’t hear about it around here I’ve never heard on the news not to bring your dog to the ocean. Just like anything in life there are risks. Hell nowadays you take a risk walking around the neighbor hood with the dog. People use poison In there gardens people drive drunk and/or stoned and could run us over. We could get robbed or get into a scrap with some homeless folk all strung out that they have in our parks spread around because they don’t want them right downtown on one street anymore because of covid.

At least I have a home now no sleeping on the streets.

I mean doesn’t even matter if I go to a dog park There’s been Pit bulls at the dog park trying to eat Toby before .

Basically there’s plenty of stuff to worry about no matter what we do for fun ha but I gotta live life.

The red algae happens more on the east coast, west coast has colder seas which helps prevent it.

I was just putting it out there because I love animals and I hadn't heard about it either until I read a story of it happening.
Thanks for looking out for my boy. Mabye I should be scared but My life’s been one horror story after another or like a swirling toilet full of poop could be another analogy ha. I just want to take it easy from here on out with my buns and pup. Toby likes going to the beach and I want to do things that make him happy to make up for the years I lost without avoiding things and worrying about what could go wrong.

Sure, nothing wrong with doing things with your animal that they enjoy. If there was a good dog beach here I would take my girl Bella, I would just keep an eye on her because I lost my 10 year old Chihuahua and my 21 year old son two months apart... both from cancer.

So I'm a bit of a worrier, especially now.

Oh for the love of all that is holy, things that could kill your pet (and you):

Everything.

Just have reasonable caution and WATCH the dang dog if it looks like it is "gulping" salt water, don't allow it to swim. One should also keep an eye out for: Sharks, giant, man killing jelly fish, the wrong kind of plant on a corral reef, rabid sand crabs I MEAN COME ON.

Do not deprive yourself from the things you enjoy because of fear. GOD COVID has a lot to answer for.

I don't go into the ocean because I consider it the giant, revolting toilet bowl of the natural world, including EVERY freaking child who has been told by its parents "go pee in the ocean."

But, I'm not AFRAID of it.

I used to fear a giant tidal wave would wipe out the east coast, but then I became sane. LOL.

Jeez I bet you do. Understandable.

I do worry too I guess I mean for instance I worry my bunny storm will get hit by a car being a free roam bunny at my work and all. But my mom seems to do enough of the worrying for the both of us and then some

Oh man, my mom is worries enough for three or four people. I'm always telling her to let things go but she can't seem to do that, I'm super thankful she's still around though.
