Hey, I haven't posted here for a while and I'm sorry about that - I hope everyone is doing well. Glancing through the posts, I see some sad things and some glad things...I'll catch up one day, but for now just know I'm sending my love to all of you.

We had a major fire where I work and live...it devastated a significant portion of our property and almost took mine and my partner's home. I literally can't believe I'm sitting in my living room right now, on my computer, typing this. We can't stay in the bedroom due to smoke and water damage, but they will be re-mediating it tomorrow and should be finished by the next day. We're totally in shock, haven't processed it yet, but we're ok - and everyone is safe. No injury or death. But it took 8 fire departments from around the region to contain it, and the Chief of the local FD (very good friend of mine - as some of you know I was their Treasurer for 3 years) says it was the hottest fire in his 40+ years of service. At one point, he thought he was about to die because a flame wall was coming at him, but he managed to get away unscathed...

I've never seen anything like it. Never seen a live fire before, and this one was really bad. An entire (large) building was engulfed within 4 minutes. Standing there watching, I felt positive that it would spread to the rest of our buildings (and I had already given up on our home, which was mere feet away from the fire and, actually, our back porch was burning) and destroy everything. I even expected it to catch the woods on fire and become a wildfire. But thanks to 65+ firefighters from as far as an hour away, we are very, very fortunate.

I'm worried about Chrissy...she's fought many fires and been on many EMS calls, seen many deaths...but I've never seen her shaken up like this before. Fighting to save her own home must have been so scary. But we're alive and we're together and that's all that matters. I've never been more grateful for life, and this has given me a whole new perspective on many things.

But for the near future I won't be on here much at all. Working 12+ hour days right now, so much to do. Just wanted to say hi, I love you all, and will pop in when I am able to.

Ack! That sucks Slothman, glad you and Chrissy still have a place to stay. What was it, a Kerosene fire? Hope things improve for you soon.

My daughter said it’s not that uncommon for family members to “set free” a pet of a relative after they pass away or move to a nursing home. They’d call on chipped strays to reunite them, only to find out no one wanted Papaws pup after he died.
I can’t imagine doing that to a pet. It’s beyond cruel and unnecessary. It’s not that time consuming to drop off an animal at a shelter. I realize not everyone is as attached to their animals as I am, but geez, common decency!

When I was living in Burbank in 2017. I walked daily on the bike path with friends. I would always see a cat in the bushes of a house we passed but the house was vacant. I felt like I needed to see if the cat needed help. I talked with neighbors. The cat had lived there since a kitten with an older lady who passed. her grown children came and collected all belongings and left the cat telling the neighbors they "did not want it' This was 3 months prior to me inquiring and the neighbors all fed the cat because they did not want to call the shelter. Several of them told me the cat would meow at their door at night. Broke my heart.
Of course I made plans to take this cat, she was very sweet. Kiki. I found her a home after about 2 months.

I literally can't imagine my home without a dog. Be it my Em or another I want a dog in my home.

It's awfully hard without them. I love my cats, but I yearn for a dog. Couldn't do right by one, though, so I'm stuck.

I got Sammy’s records from the shelter. Looks like someone just dumped him. He had worms, fleas, respiratory infection and cough, etc when they got him. But, he’s far from feral. He’s 100% potty trained, knows commands, and is very loving. He’s not a runner, so I don’t think he just slipped out a door. I feel bad he had to go through all that just to get here.
@f1vefour , if he turns out to be the world’s first 47 pound apple head chihuahua, I’m totally cool with that. Chances are pretty slim though lol

Catdog has seemingly forgiven us.... or, she got tired of her self imposed exile to the rug in the water closet where she was being stepped around all day lol. She is NOT interested in making friends with him, but conversely is miffed when he totally ignores her. It’s like watching a bad rom-com flick on the Hallmark Channel

Think about all my bunnies around my work . Wish I could save them all but I spend a lot of time and money making the feral ones happy and feel loved. They all run to me and crowd around me standing up when I get out of my truck or walk out the gates. That makes me happy to see them all munching on carrots and happy. That’s What makes me spend my half hour lunch most days feeding the buns in each area when I already work 12 hours a day all week and then work non stop every weekend cleaning bunny houses and building stuff outside.

They have a nice home with unlimited food and treats along with water and hay.

Just today though some guy running let his dogs chase Stevie’s sister down the path and she went underneath the fence into the yard and sat staring all traumatized for like 15 minutes. I came back with a carrot for her though

All cheetah's have what are called tear lines that run from the inside corners of their eyes down to the outside edges of their mouth. Helps to reduce the sun's glare when hunting on sunny days.

Cheetah's can reach speeds between 68-75mph (short bursts). From a standing start they can reach 45mph in 2 seconds. Fast.

I watch a fair share of NatGeo and Smithsonian programs.
