Shorting out every time!

Every time I build a dual coil it shorts. I tried a quad and it shorted as well. My single coils don't fail me and will go forever.
I have tried it with various gauge kanthal, laying the positive leads on top of one another, and even as a continuous coil. HELP!!!!


Oh yeah building on a Trident clone.

Disconnect 1 coil and get them working 1 at a time?

A short on just 1 will short out both so it would just be 1 that is shorting out. Do 1 at a time and figure out which one.

and what ohms do you get individually


(i got a hunch you're measuring with a multimeter neg to neg instead of pos to neg)

I posted the wrong pic. The one I'm working with right now is this. Also each coil individually reads .7ohm as measured by my vtr as my ohm meter has yet to ship.

I think your vtr treats 0.35 ohm as a short.

.35 would still fire on my K100+ with vtc4 but the "2 cent fuse" kicks in and kills the juice.

The "2 cent fuse" is kicking in because your .35 ohm coil resistance with a 4.2 volt battery is pulling 12 amps. Well past the limit of the "2 cent fuse". The version 2 of the "2 cent fuse" will trip at 3.5 amps after 5 to 10 seconds and at once with around 6 amps I believe.

regulated mods have short circuit protection.

It considers anything below a certain threshold to be a short circuit.

I think you should wrap bigger coils and get the overall resistance over 1 ohm and stay safe

I'm not firing on the VTR was only using it as a temporary ohm meter.

Get a multimeter if you're going to be building that low.. I suggest a miliohm meter for that low of resistance.

What is the lowest ohms that your VTR will measure.

What exactly is going on when you say it's shorting?

Does it just read as zero ohms? Does the coil pop? Are you coils just heating unevenly?
