Should I use a 510 to 510 connector on the provari?

Long story short. I had an issue with connector on the sengeli version of the zmax (so it basically became a $70 paperweight after just a month). Never had a problem with a lavatube or smok zmax.

Should I protect my threads/connector with a 510 to 510 connector, or on the provari is that not much of a concern?

It depends on how often you change tanks! When i used Nova Tanks (which my wife has now stolen for her eVic) - i had at any time maybe 10 on the go at a time - all different and a few different flavours, so i'd sometimes change the tank 5+ times a day - e.g go to work - i want the one with no glass...go out i want the nicest looking one etc and so then i did use a 510-510 on every device.
Now i use an RBA and so i just whack that right on top of the device.

I take my tank off once a week to 10 days. I only take it off when I change the carto out. Otherwise I slip up the tank without taking off the carto and use a refill tool.

That also says how bad the threads on the sengeli zmax was. Crap!

I swap them out daily, my working juice (12mg) during the day and my night juice (6mg) for after work. So far no problem.
