Sick Again

I've been vaping exclusively since mid August, starting with 24mg. My next order was 18mg, and I stayed with it for 6 weeks or so. I dropped down to 8mg for about 6-8 weeks or so, and now I've been on 4mg for about 2-3 weeks. I plan to do without completely by the end of the year, and I don't think it'll be all that tough. 4mg of nicotine just isn't all that enjoyable, so I don't think I'll have a difficult time putting them down.

Now to the sickness....Before I started vaping I would maybe get a upper respiratory infection (cold/cough) about once a year, or maybe twice. Sometimes I could go a few years without getting sick. Since I started vaping I've been to the Dr. 3 times for this. The first time was within a few weeks of starting. The 2nd time was about 5-6 weeks later, and here we are again, I'm feeling ill yet again. I'm not sure if it's coincidence or not, but it seems a little fishy to me. In the 16-17 years of smoking analogs I can't remember ever going to the Dr. this many times in the fall for a dang cold.

Anyone else encounter this?

No. I have the reverse. My lung function actually improved. I checked my 02 saturation at work. I use to be around 93-94% and now I have jumped to 97 and above. I have listened to my lungs and no longer hear crackles or any adventitious sounds. I no longer cough up copious amounts of mucous when doing a chore. So for me it has improved my overall health.

On the other hand what type of e-liquid are you using. When I first started I tried to use mostly VG and it made my lungs hurt and I did cough allot. (Just my personal account.)

I didn't mean to come off as meaning my health isn't overall better than it used to be. My oxygen saturation is at 98%, my heart rate is lower and my blood pressure is lower since making the switch to e-cigs. My breathing is better, and when I do get these colds the cough isn't near as productive (coughing up all kinds of stuff), and the actual cough lasts 1/3 the time it would have been, had I been smoking analogs.

I've just been getting sick more often, and I don't know if it's just this season, or the fact that I started vaping. It could just be a coincidence. I wasn't sure if I was alone in this, which is why I made the post.

As for the e-liquid I use...70% PG / 30% VG blend. I've been using the same flavor since day one, with just the nicotine content % change.

I've experienced just the opposite since I began vaping, and my health has steadily improved over the last six months. And, spending a lot of time on ECF, I have read very few posters with the problem you describe. This, of course, doesn't mean that vaping is not adversely effecting your health, so going to the Dr. is a good idea, and you might explain the situation to him or her.

I've had lots of crazy symptoms since quitting smoking - severe acne, headaches, drowsiness, a few minor out-of-the-ordinary sicknesses, etc. All of them can be attributed to quitting smoking. When you quit, whether cold turkey or otherwise, your body goes nutso. Your hormones start adjusting, your immune system jumps into overdrive, and you start expelling all the toxins related to smoking. There are all sorts of ways this can manifest, and it wouldn't surprise me if your problems are a result of you quitting, and not of the ingredients in the juice.

FWIW - all of my symptoms are now subsiding.

Stopping vaping is a noble goal. I'm toying with that one for New Year's myself, but not sure if I'm quite there yet. I would suggest that if you feel the need to "fudge" just a little, you either vape plain PG/VG/nic or a really dilute down your flavorings a lot. There are a lot of chemicals in the flavoring that are respiratory irritants, so going easy on them could potentially solve some of your problems.

T,

I'm guessing something is irritating your lungs or your allergic to something in the juice. Both are common it seems. I know I can't vape cinnamon flavors or PG juices or my chest gets asthmatic feeling- like I can't breathe deep.

I'm glad you are getting off it. If you ever start jonesing and need something- they sell VG in the health section at Walmart by the band aids. And sell Loranns flavoring in WM in the candy making/craft section.

For me, it's the reverse of what you have experienced. Fewer problems all round.

However I think the choice of liquid is critical, people are different in the way they tolerate PG / VG / PEG, and flavors. Even changing brands within, for example, VG, can probably make a difference for some people.
