Silica in a genesis rba

Maybe this is old news to a lot of you but for some reason I've never really thought about using silica in my DID. A couple days ago I took a 2.5mm piece of silica, folded it in 2, stuck the ends down through the wick hole and attached the leads. WOW! Hands down, best vape I've ever had! My resistance came out to 1.4 and I can use it on a provari. Much better than SS mesh on a mech and MUCH easier to build! I've fallen in love with my DID all over again I do like ss mesh and can build it and make it work just fine... it's just that it needs to be (for me) at .8 and on a mech. I've been trying to move away from ss mesh...even though I like it and can get it to work, it's just getting to be too much work. With silica, the atty isn't quite so postitional and while it still needs to be kept somewhat upright, it doesn't leak through the holes on the deck quite as badly as it does built with mesh. And sooooo easy to build! After 2 days the flavor has just gotten better. Dense, thick vapor and tons of it

I feel like I have a whole new device LOL. I was hoping it would work but I never thought it would work this well. Anyway, just wanted to share my experience.

I was using silca in my RSST/AGA it,works well but i was getting a burnt taste before the tank was finished,i dont think silca or cotton wicks can keep too the sub omh wrap of the mech mods,go with cable rope.

I tried it once awhile back w/out great results (muted flavor) but I had my coil positioned horizontal & centered between the posts (way too far away from the wick hole I suspect) but I didn't & tweek it any. Maybe it's time to ressurect one of my T2s & try again...

I'm not talking about a sub-ohm build.. tired of building sub-ohm coils. I'm getting tired of messing with the mesh but until now, I couldn't find anything that blew me out of the water like a slr coil on a mech does. I'm just (very) pleasantly surprised that I've found another option to use in these expensive rbas and now I don't HAVE to keep using the mesh.

I too tried it awhile back on a did clone, I used cotton instead of silica and it didn't work too well. For me, cotton burns too easy and once it burns, it's toast (no pun intended) For the last few months, all I've wanted to use was a mech with a .8 coil on mesh, I've been searching for something easier to build and maintain that still gives great flavor and vapor. (My GP spheroid fits the bill nicely btw)

I'm thrilled I've found something easy to build, I don't have to use 28g wire and I can use it on my provari's. I'm thrilled that I have found another use for my DIDs rather than having to use mesh. yes, sub-ohms on a mech is great and I won't give that up. This is just another (easier) option that gives (me) the same results. and it feels safer too.

I've watched a few videos and done a bit of research but from what I can see, you still have to wrap the cable in mesh (or the coil won't make complete contact). I may try that out later on if I find myself bored and want to try something else. There's lots of other threads on cable wire as a wick. I'm just saying that if someone has a genny and hasn't tried silica in it... they might want to give it a try.

Options are nice! Actually my Provari & gennies have been in (semi) retirement since I got my bottom feeder dialed in w/a micro-coil & cotton. I say 'semi' cause I still dig em out once in a while when I get bored w/a fiddle-free vape.

I been using silica in my gennys for a few months now and the vape is far better than using ss mesh...IMHO. I make my builds anywhere from .8ohms to 1.2ohms using 28g wire and it performs perfect. I also fold the silica over but only have one of the tails going into the tank (I cut off the other tail). This let me plug in the fill hole without getting vapor-locked and the genny becomes 100% leak proof.

Lol...I had a reo a year or so ago. It was a vv woodvil and I finally sold it because I couldn't taste anything but the wood and varnish it was made out of. It was nice though.

Great idea! I'll try that. I haven't plugged the fill jole yet. I have laid it on its side to see what would happen and it looks like the juilike the juice comes up the wick hole and not the fill hole.

Donnah....definitely try it out. If you can vape with the fill hole plugged not only does the genny become 100% leak proof....but also the juice stays the same color and taste fresh even to the last drop. I have juices that would get 100 shades darker with the fill hole open and an ss mesh wick....now the same juices stay the original color to the last drop. I don't know what the dynamics are but some how when you plug the fill hole the juice don't get darker anymore.

I tried putting the fill hole screw in but I didn't enjoy the vape.. it seemed .. restricted somehow, not near the amount of vapor I get with the plug out. It would be nice if I could just throw this in my purse (like I can the GP spheroid) and not worry about it but I can't. I did lay it down on it's side for awhile and when I picked it up, juice had leaked out the air hole

Keeping it upright in my purse isn't a huge deal, the provari with the did attached just slides down in a pocket. It can lay on it's side for a little while but will will eventually (sooner than later) leak out the air hole. The vape is good enough to still be worth it though.

I've only ever used silica in my aga-t, I started with an ego twist and was hesitant to try using ss mesh with it. I've now got a vamo so I could use ss, and I may try it, but I'm very happy with silica built genesis style, the vapor and flavor are on par with a well built dripper. I usually use 2mm silica folded over twice where the coil is wrapped and just a single leg going down into the wick hole. With the fill screw in it doesn't leak and the wicking keeps up as long as you tilt it while vaping. I've found that if you're getting dry-ish hits on a long draw it's because you don't have enough bulk to your wick under the coil, you need a lot of wick inside the coil so it doesn't dry out too quickly.

I've currently got an AGI Transformer with a silca wick through both wick and fill holes. 400 SS mesh wrapped aound it, a looooong 2.2 ohm kanthal 32g doubled up coil wrapped around that (coil is almost half circle from fill hole to fill hole). I think it's a bit much for my eVic since it takes a couple of seconds to heat up, but great flavor. Less vapor than my straight ss wick build. It's great to chain vape, keeps the wick hotter. I'm pumping what my eVic claims is 10.8 watts into it, dialing it down using VV as I vape. I like it - but I think I'm going to pull it apart and try a stainless steel wire wick...

Really excited about the Terminator KC RDA in a K8 locking tank. Got the tank caps here, got a pyrex XL tube from IBTanks and a pair of Terminator Attys on the way. Gonna try a similar wick to the AGA on one, and a ss 7x7 wire in K 116 sleeve on the other. Let the best wick win!

interesting about the juice not darkening with the fill hole plugged. I always assumed that it was from tilting and that some of the juice from the coil came back down into the tank. this juice darkening is my only complaint about gennys. I wonder if its a combination of both the silica and fill hole plugged? i have often tried to plug the fill hole and never seen much of a difference in the vape so i just left it un plugged so i don't have to keep screwing & unscrewing the screw everytime i fill, but now i will plug to see if it actually helps with the darkening. you doing ok edo?

My coil is 1.4ohms and it seems to be keeping up pretty good. Occasionally I turn it upside down for a second to help it but all in all it's been wicking like a champ, even chain vaping.

i got a kayfun and fixed that problem and just leave my cobra setup with mesh.
