Silica Wick. Does it taste different brand to brand or vender to vender?

So I have silica that I have been using in my Igo L building .5-.9 ohm coils, with no issues.

I recently rebuilt a Protank and a t3 with the same wick (different Kanthal), and I am getting a awful taste. It is not a burnt or a dry hit taste. Hard to explain but maybe a weird earthy or dirty taste (cat urine?) I guess.

Only thing I can think is that it is the taste of the silica. I just never noticed it with the Igo due to the large amount of vapor produced masked the flavor, and now with lower heat and less vapor I can taste it?

Has anyone else experienced this? Do different silicas taste different? Where could I try buying more from?

i get different tastes from different silica, mesh, ceramic.
the cleanest taste i ever had was from silica that came with a 8.99 dripper.

could it be the wire that you used? I get funky tastes with different wires most settle in after they are broken in except nichrome
