Hello everyone, my name is Tom and I've been big into vaping for a little while now, and just picked up the very appealing Silverplay Version 2 by Project Sub-ohm, and due to the lack of reviews I thought I would post the first review based off of my first week owning it. I plan to follow up in the coming weeks as it breaks in and I use it more.
Price:
$59.99 (vapordna.com)
Packaging:
When I received the RTA I was impressed with the packaging. It comes in a pretty black box with silver and red markings. Inside there is cut foam that fits all of the other items that come with the tank.
Included:
A 304 Stainless steel tank
An extra Pyrex Tank
A rounded top cap
A straight edged cap
A rifles shorty drip tip
The RTA
Extra O rings
Extra Screws
It all arrives in good shape, no scratches or oil that I noticed, and everything is nice out of the box.
Tank Exterior, First Impressions:
The tank looks beautiful on the outside, and it come apart in a way I was not used to. (Having no experience with the Russian 91% or the Kayfun this was unique). You can remove the tank from the deck so you can have it filled and still build, and you can also fill from the base, but I will get into that later.
As soon as I took it out I put in my Trinity Copa Drip tip, and installed the rounded top cap. It looks great and it is very nice to be able to customize it. The biggest issue I had out off the box was the airflow ring. It is not secured on the bottom, just by an o ring on the top. The issue is that it always falls of when you hold it until it is on your tank, making it difficult to work with sometimes because I keep forgetting it will fall off and roll around. Other than that the Silverplay logo as well as the Project Sub-ohm logo look great and clean on the front of the device. The tank looks clean and the externals are beautiful. It has an ADJUSTABLE yes ADJUSTABLE silver plated copper pin and 510 connector. THIS IS HUGE because now you can use this tank on a hybrid mechanical mod without worrying about shortages.
Tank Interior, First Impressions:
All internal parts came clean and unscratched. The 4.5 ml capacity is also a nice bonus although it is becoming standard in the tank race that is going on now. The internal chamber of the RTA is rounded and adds to the awesome flavor from the RDA. The airflow is immense on the RTA. I will get into that more in the Deck section. The parts separate into the deck, the inner chimney, a Stainless Steel body, the Pyrex tank, the chimney cap, SS round top cap, SS Flat top cap and lastly the "rifled" shorty drip tip.
All parts look great but the threads are super squeaky. The pieces seem to line up however the squeak a lot, as you see in low quality RTAs and RDAs. It takes all parts from the Russian 91% as well as the Kayfun which allows for upgrades and customization beyond any other RTA I know of.
Deck Section, First Impressions:
The deck was awesome at first. I was super excited to see the huge air holes, juice wells, and the almost mini "mutationesque" deck. It is a 4 post design with two vertical juice channels on each side for wicking. There are two massive air-holes under each side that are about 3.3 mm in diameter. This deck is amazing to build on and offers dual or SINGLE coil options. That is right the airflow works for single coils as well as dual coils. So far I have used: a 24 gauge 6 wrap 2.5 mm dual coil, a 24 gauge 7 wrap Chimney build, both single and dual, and a 28 gauge 7 wrap 2.5 mm dual coil. All of these builds fit well however the only one I really have likes so far is the 28 gauge coils. They produce a ton of vapor and the flavor is great.
However it is not all great in the Silverplay deck. The juice channels came marred and scraped up, the threads are sharp enough to cut you without much effort and it leaks more than anything I have ever owned. Im not sure if it is the wicking but it loves to leak. I cut the wicks to go about half way down the juice well and it leaks every time.
Filling the Tank, First Impression:
There are two ways to fill this tank. When trying a build it is possible to fill from the bottom screw into just the RDA section for use. That is a massive upgrade from say my Lemo 2 which costs a whole tank, or at least whatever is in it, to try a build. Other than that you can take off the tank except for the deck and fill it easily and with less leaking. When filling from the screw you have to be careful not to over fill as it will go straight down the chimney and onto your desk. ONLY use the screw to fill the RDA section to try it, otherwise Id recommend using the other method.
PROS:
-Looks great
-Tastes great
-Innovative
-HUGE airflow
-Takes Russian and Kayfun Parts
-4.5 Ml capacity
-Easy to build deck
-Nice customization
opportunities
-Tons of airhole options on the bottom rings! There are 8 adjustable holes in the rings.
CONS:
-It leaks so bad whenever I have it in my car, or even on my desk, or pocket, basically it always leaks when I don't use it which is a huge con in my opinion. Its not a tiny bit, it leaks about half of the tank without me noticing. It just all pools under my mods when they sit on the desk and when I blow into my rta before a hit it blows juice all over. Please if anyone is reading this and knows how to fix it let me know because I would love to hear that this is human error so I can change it in my next weeks review.*** Fixed the leaking. i switched back to the flat top piece. Along with that I moved the coils a bit lower. Now the issue seems to be that I am not getting the same flavor and I have had dry hits more frequently.
-Squeaky threads
-Airflow ring is unsecured when the tank is off a mod.
-The deck was scraped up
-It is a bit over-hyped on Vapordna.com
It is described on he website as almost perfect yet still leaks horribly two days after opening it.
-There are no resources to consult about this RTA yet.
This is actually the first review of the Silverplay 2 I've ever seen.
-It is pretty expensive considering the cons.
Overall I would give this a 6/10 during the first week of using it. It preforms great but the leaking is horrible...*** Fixed the leaking. i switched back to the flat top piece. Along with that I moved the coils a bit lower. Now the issue seems to be that I am not getting the same flavor and I have had dry hits more frequently.
Please keep in mind that I plan to be strict with my ratings, so a 6 is above average but not outstanding on my scale.
Please let me know what you think of this review. I will take all constructive criticism into consideration. Please check out the pictures attached.
