Hi all-

I am really interested in getting into DIY. For several reasons, mainly because I figure if I DIY my own juice, I'll know whats in it (more or less) and quite frankly for the savings. juice can get pricey, and if I pay $10 for a 10ml bottle at a local B&M and vape 3ml a day...well you get my drift.

so,now that I know I want to get into the DIY world...heres what may be the first of a gazillion questions.
my end goal for now is to keep it very simple... single flavors, no recipies yet

I want to end up with 18mg strength 50/50 blend.

sorry for this getting lengthy...heres the question. it seems like pretty simple math but Ive got a stumbling block already. Using 100mg nic base in vg,vg/pg,and pg flavors all from wizard labs.

To make 10ml of juice by my simple math method I have come up with:
vg nic = 1.8ml
vg base = 3.2 ml =5ml
pg flavor = 1.0ml
pg base = 4.0ml = 5ml
so this should end up with 50% vg and 50% pg with the nic level I wanted.

Next, I checked out several of the online calculators and ended up with the following recipie from most of them:
nic = 1.8ml
vg base = 3.6 ml
flavor = 1.0 ml
pg base = 3.6 ml

doesnt this recipe end up as a 54% vg/46% pg blend?

why dont the online calculators end up with the 50/50 blend that I asked for?

the huge question...does it matter if I end up with 50/50 or 54/46?

Thanks everyone... I really appreciate it!

While I am trying some diy's from starting point, a lot of my mixing is with bought nic liquid, bringing down the strength of the nic from say 18mg to 12mg or lower. To do this I just use 20 drops of the bought liquid and add 10 drops, usually 5 pg and 5 vg, and maybe a couple of drops of different flavour. I figure this gives me about 12mg or less. This is because after 9 mths vaping, I feel I don't need as much nic and for health reasons need to cut it down. Not sure why e1 gets so exact. I do try to keep an idea of which flavours go with other flavours but the pg/vg ratio seems to be pretty forgiving and altho I still like the bit of a kick of the nic, flavour is becoming more important. Cheers and enjoy the adventures of mixing and vaping!!J Just read it is now 11 months - wow that is great. Getting up to the year. Big milestone!! :)

You really only need one type of unflavored NIC base in ether PG or VG and then get the non nic pg or VG liquid. Then use the calculator I linked to. I've already plugged in the numbers for you to use as a guide.

It's for a 10ml mix using 100ml NIC base in PG and straight PG and VG to dilute it to get to 18ml.
Additionally I plugged in 2 flavors for you one at 5% one at 1%.

The calculator I use has a pg/vg % adjustment. To illistrate how this works my calculations take into account a 50/50 pg/vg flavor. Although flavors come in pg or vg bases they very rearly come in a pg/vg combo base. I just thought it was a good example for the OP to follow as a guideline to understanding pg/vg ratio's. It calculates a midway point between an all vg and all pg flavor. Although neither calculation is incorrect you may have noticed the difference between my calculation and yours was minimal. I beleive the difference between the two in the final mix would be trivial.
